Adnan: Envoys Can Dispel Myths on Malaysia

Of course Malaysia is safe and peaceful… For high ranking and important foreigners! No way the police are going to let crime affect them influential visitors.

After all, there are plenty enough local victims to keep the criminals happy. No need for them to force their way past the armed guards and police outrider escorts to disturb the very-impressionable foreign diplomats and businessmen.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has urged foreign heads of mission based here to set the record straight on negative reports involving safety and security in Malaysia.

Addressing about 200 ambassadors and high commissioners, the minister said they were the right people to spread the word that Malaysia was safe and peaceful.

“I trust you will spread the good word to your fellow countrymen,” Tengku Adnan said at a dinner for the diplomatic heads of mission on Thursday, held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2007.

Tengku Adnan said he would also be grateful if the envoys could stress that Malaysia was an ideal venue for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions, as the country had a proven track record in managing major international exhibitions and conferences.

“Your presence here tonight is a reflection of your enthusiasm and eagerness to support our mission to promote Malaysia as an internationally-recognised destination,” he said.

The dinner was also aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the ministry and foreign missions as well as updating the envoys on Visit Malaysia Year events and activities. – Bernama
