Voting in the upcoming general elections is the best way to influence change in this country for the better – not Bersih rallies or HINDRAF rallies (despite how impressive they may be and how over-reactionarily the government responds).

So if you don’t like how the current administration has handled things, is handling things, and plans to handles things in the future – vote them out of power.

The Barisan Nasional powers-that-be know that they’re privileged position is precarious. They even ask us not to vote for the Opposition even if we’re unhappy with the ruling party.

Do you need any more reason to get registered and get out and vote than a quote like that?

I need to register to vote. Have to go back Ipoh to do it, gah

  2. wits0 Says:

I’ve applied for the change of address from location C to D online on 23rd Oct and still this hasn’t taken effect according to this check.

The previous time I applied the old fashion way from location A to B and gave them 9 months and still that was no effected by election day. So I couldn’t vote. Sometimes one suspects this was deliberate.

Red tape and monolithic bereaucracy are excellent cover for electoral manipulation…

  4. wits0 Says:

Unless Bersih’s immediate demands are met, this makes things into a double insult.

  5. Anne Says:

Jamie, you just have to go to a post office anywhere in Malaysia.

  6. keanloong Says:

i agree with wits0. it makes no difference whether we vote or not (not that i’m advocating non-voting!) if the BERSIH demands are not met.

how can our votes count for anything when BN has countless 100 years old ghosts rising from the grave to vote for them? for every 1 living person who votes, BN will resurrect 10 ghost voters!

BUT if anyone of you eligible people who have not registered to vote, you probably deserved the idiotic people that is ruling our lives.

    Dear sir/Madam,

Good morning i want to register the vote for me & fly members..i’m staying at kajang..
    pls advice..

  8. Nasaei Ahmad Says:

keanloong, yes I also doubt..highly doubt it as yo do. Barisan Najis will do anything…aaaanyything possible, moral or immoral..just to stay in power (power=$$$$). Briberies, corrupt practices, intimidating, cheating, bringing out voter to the other voting areas (ticket name: “persempadanan semula” etc. That was proven, fact!

    Really satanic !

    Thank you.

  14. Jeyaraj Christopoher Rajaraoi Says:

Why is it my voting centers are different for Satate elctions and Parliamentary elections? Is oit not commonsense and avoidance of much problems to vote in the same center for the two candidates/two posts in the same place?

  15. John Deep Says:

I have been living overseas for many years. On a recent trip back to KL, I decided to register as a voter but when I went to the Pos Malaysia to do so, the counter clerk told me I was already registered at a Kampun Melayu in for Hulu Kelang, Selangor. I dont recall registrating myself as a voter but I am already in the Register!! I wonder if some political party used my vote at last few elections since I have never voted in my life, having lived abroad!

Should I lodge a complaint ? To whom? Any suggestions out there?

Saya harap pihak-pihak tertentu yg. memberikan kerayatan mudah kpd warga asing faham bahawa tindakan mereka tidak “menguntungkan” mereka akhirnya, bahkan memakan diri. Bukankah mereka memegang amanah ? So, khianat adalah dosa.
This is really food for thouhgt, for you, the “unsmart” traitors !

    Hi Scott..

Rumours and ‘rumours mongers’ are floating over the internet that x-Pope Benedict (XVI?) has converted to Islam immediately after he quit the papacy post recently.

My question (if U can help): How do we ascertain if it was really a rumours…or NOT? How do we verify it (the news). U can check it youself to ‘investigate’ it for us all. TQ. I pasted below, the news/rumors..

Dead Seriousness News: Pope Benedict XVI Resigns Papacy, Converts to Islam

    Pope Benedict

HOLY SEE – In a shocking press conference Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI revealed to the world that he will be stepping down from the Catholic Church’s highest office. “Through prayer and reflection over the past years,” the world’s holiest man began, “I’ve realized that Allah is the one true God.”

Amid clattering camera shutters and roaring reporters, Pope Benedict patiently answered questions, citing traditional Muslim folklore as well as passages from the Qur’an to explain his decision. His session was interrupted only once, when he swiveled South-East to face Mecca, stooped to the ground, and recited the Asr, one of the five daily prayers central to Muslim belief.

The startling reversal comes as a shock to many familiar with the Pope’s policies on Islam. “Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached,” the Bishop of the Vatican famously said of Islam in his 2006 lecture Faith, Reason and the University—Memories and Reflections.

When asked about the quote, Pope Benedict sighed with good-humored remorse and chuckled quietly to himself: “Yeah I’ve regretted that for some time. But I was young and naïve… I see things much clearer now. Besides, I’ve always kinda liked the thought of having a sword. The Cardinals were a real pain on that one.”

When asked whether he would be reverting to his born name, Pope Benedict enthusiastically interjected. “I’ve decided to change my name to Sajjad Sayyid Ratzinger,” His Ex-Holiness explained. “I’m keeping my surname purely for logistical reasons, so my Facebook friends and Twitter followers won’t be confused.”

His transition hasn’t been without opposition. Hours after the press conference, a special Fox and Friends segment aired on FOXNEWS, featuring a picture of the Pope photoshopped to include stereotypical Islāmic features, including: a turban in place of his mitre, darkened complexion, black hair, and Arabic letters spelling out an endorsement of Barack Hussein Obama tattooed across his chest. Beneath the picture, the panel discussed the possible involvement of Pope Benedict XVI, 85, in 9/11. The segment’s title, “The Holy Heathen,” emblazoned the lower left corner of the screen.

This morning, newspapers nationwide featured an editorial by Bill O’Reilly detailing the parallels between the Pope’s “betrayal of God-loving Christians everywhere” with the “betrayal of the American people and the Constitution by Benedict Arnold, his liberal agenda, and his radical left-wing entourage.”

  26. Scott Thong Says:

Hahaha… Well there are several ways.

First, the traditional method of checking the original source of the news. The source seems to be Deas Seriousness which is a parody site. It’s quite obvious from the other articles they have, such as ‘Dennis Rodman Restores Peace in the Middle East’ (doesn’t seem to have made Israel and Palestine friends yet) and ‘Patriots Sign Brady For $24 In Beads’ (he is worth something like $72 million).

Second, checking against other reputable news sites. As it is still quite early, we don’t have much for this part but eventually Snopes.com should have a section on it.

Third, checking the facts claimed in the article. For example, his saying that his earlier comments about Muhammad were when he was ‘young and naive’ (it was only 7 years ago when he was 79 years old), casual joking about liking to have a sword, lampooning right wing Fox News and Bill O’Reilly which can be checked against the actual broadcast history of these shows. It’s quite clear the article is in a humorous and unserious vein.

Fourth, checking against what Benedict has shown himself to be like. For example, he has criticized Muhammad as stated in the article, baptized a high-profile convert out of Islam and canonizing 800 victims of the Turkish invasion. Of course, sudden 180-degree conversions have been known to happen – for example Saul the Pharisee hunted down many Christians but then converted to Christianity himself and became Paul the greatly influential apostle.

And fifth, takes longer but is final: Will Benedict XVI (or is it Sajjad Sayyid Ratzinger) ever appear in public as a Muslim? The former Cat Stevens did so it’s clear he converted, while Neil Armstrong refuted the rumours so he obviously didn’t convert.

But honestly in this case, by the first step we already are quite sure it’s a hoax.
