Thanks for the lesson in culture, JSDreyer. You could actually say that all the above were inspired by the Roman heritage of the West.

Sorry about the links and stuff - Wordpress is set to hold all comments with more than one link for review, it's an anti-spam thing.

Conservatives still rely on objective and factual arguments to make their point. However, such an approach is often ignored or shouted down by the liberal left, or even painted as false and ridiculed - including by the compliant media. This is especially true in the Age of Obama, which is basically how he got elected and Palin is thought of as a country hick.

Conservatives also resort to humour to make their point - which if you look carefully, is the tone I took with this and the Obama = Mussolini post.

Overall however, I feel that you are setting up somewhat of a straw man of Conservatives and the GOP. Here are the points where I feel you are inaccurate:

1) Now they rely on personal attacks, Nazi references, and fear-mongering (see: Deth Panelz). It has succeeded in alienating a couple of generations in the process. - The Left has used the same tactics you decry for years (Bush Chimp, Bushitler, Palin is slutty etc), and yet somehow Obama managed to win the election. Or does alienation of voters only occur when the political party is NOT expected to be staffed by juveniles?

2) The only support in any age group that the GOP in the US has is over 65. And those will be gone in 10 years. Then what? - Then it seems that the senior citizen age group constitutes almost half the country, as 48% of the popular vote went to McCain. (Hey, wait, that totally makes sense - he's a septuagenarian!) Also, you may want to rephrase your notion to "Only support among those born before 1944", as every year that passes, MORE people become aged 66 or older!

3) It’s important to have counter arguments to any policy, and the GOP is largely abdicating their responsibility by lying and fomenting fear to oppose ALL legislation. - This is basically repeating Obama's talking points on the Stimulus and Healthcare debates.

Firstly, in both cases, GOP congress members and senators have provided a viable alternative that requires far less spending, but Obama and Pelosi portray them as resisting without any proposed solutions.

Secondly, in many cases of alleged 'lying', what opponents of Obamacare are doing is simply putting the spotlight on passages from the immense (and unread by Congress) bill that may be interpreted as 'Deth Panelz' etc - but if such important legislation is so vaguely worded, it actually can be interpreted as such by the executors of the bill's provisions. Not to mention the massive earmark for generic and unspecified 'Science' in the Stimulus Bill.

Thirdly, Obama himself is playing on people's fears by warning about an impending economic/health disaster ("Can't afford to do nothing") and alluding to sinister insurance companies manipulating the puppet strings of the populace.

So if you are right about the country rejecting political parties for their current behaviour, at most throngs of people are rejecting both the Left and the Right to join the Libertarians or abstain from voting at all.

But that is not what the statistics say: Great Work Obama! More and More Americans Becoming Conservatives

Hmm, I can't get this to post for some reason...

Okay, really? This is where you're going?

Let's see what other Nazi-inspired organizations are out there, shall we?

How about the U.S. Marine Corps? Semper Fi, indeed:

And the Atlanta Hawks basketball team. Because the Nazis invented BBall as a way to showcase their racial superiority. Oh, wait:

And the American League baseball team (see BBall explanation):

Hmm, the Harley Davidson logo comes close:

And of course Slayer:

Well, Slayer may actually be Nazis, I'm not sure.

The point is this: There was a time when conservatives used wit, charm, and intelligence to counter liberal/progressive arguments. Now they rely on personal attacks, Nazi references, and fear-mongering (see: Deth Panelz). It has succeeded in alienating a couple of generations in the process. It's important to have counter arguments to any policy, and the GOP is largely abdicating their responsibility by lying and fomenting fear to oppose ALL legislation. The world needs change, and the USA leads much of that change, so it's important to have solid, vetted policies. This kind of BS doesn't help the debate.
