Ace of Spades HQ on Why the Left Hates Conservative Media

May 8, 10

From Ace of Spades HQ:

So, all else being equal, it makes perfect sense for the 15-20% of our population that barely knows anything at all to politics to stick to the safe harbor of the default script.

This is the MFM’s greatest achievement — that for this 15-20% of the population that has no serious, structure political beliefs at all, an adherence to the general basics of liberalism is the default setting. All ties go to the liberals, in other words, and that’s big thing, isn’t it?

And that is why I fluctuate between treating the Democratic Party and the MFM as our top opponents in politics. Yes, it’s the Democratic Party on the ballot every two years.

But, as Andrew Breitbart rages in his stump speech [here], it’s actually the MFM which props the Democratic Party up by delivering unto them 15-20% of the public they never had to convince or fight for. 15-20% of the vote is delivered to the liberal camp every election simply because the media has established that’s the way nice people who just want what’s good — and want the least hassle over politics — vote.

And I think a fair number of partisan liberals understand this (far more than would be willing to admit it) and that accounts for their rage at FoxNews and Rush Limbaugh and any other contrary voice. If the Democrats’ advantage among soft-liberal apathetics declined to 15-20% to 10% or 5% or (God Forbid!) no advantage at all, they could start seriously losing elections.

Makes sense to me!

Happy Teacher’s Day, Cikgu – Now Clean Up This Mess!

May 8, 10

Honestly, does any other profession get treated with this sort of disdain from both their ‘customers’ and their employers?

From The Star 8 May 2010:

Teachers cry foul over cleaning chores
By KAREN CHAPMAN

PETALING JAYA: Many teachers are unhappy with an Education Ministry circular asking them to carry out a mass clean-up programme (“gotong-royong perdana”) in schools next Saturday to mark Teacher’s Day on May 16.

The circular was sent to 10,000 schools, with teachers encouraged to take part in chores such as cleaning the school compound and painting classroom walls for peer-bonding.

National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary-general Lok Yim Pheng said the union had been flooded with complaints.

“They say teachers should not be asked to do cleaning in conjunction with Teacher’s Day,” she said.

Lok added that teachers might have misinterpreted the good intention of the ministry to encourage bonding among teachers.

The union, she added, wanted to suggest that May 15 be made a normal school day as replacement for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri public holiday.

It is learnt that the ministry had sent a subsequent circular yesterday saying that the gotong-royong was now voluntary.

Some teachers said the cleaning work did not reflect their professionalism, went beyond their core business of teaching, and did not give a good impression of teachers.

Happy Mother’s Day, mum! Now cook me a grand dinner and wash the plates afterward!

Happy birthday, pal! Where’s my present and cake you were supposed to get?

Congratulations on breaking the 100-metre dash Olympic record! Here’s a pickaxe, a bucket and a smelter. Go mine some gold ore, refine it and hand over a finely-crafted medal to me.

…Still not done? I thought they said you were fast.

Why Jesus’ Healing of the Paralytic is A Declaration of Divinity

May 7, 10

When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” – Mark 2:5-7

Notice that the charge is blasphemy. Why is this so?

Let’s say I steal from my brother. He can forgive me for stealing. But can he forgive the sin itself? When I stole from my brother, I rebelled against God’s commandment not to steal (Exodus 20:15). Therefore my sin is against God, so only God can choose whether to forgive my sin of stealing.

Or put it this way…

I am Scott. If you sin against Scott, I can forgive those sins against me. Michelle Malkin cannot forgive those sins against me, because she is not Scott. Only I am Scott – only I can forgive sins against me.

Mel Gibson is Mel Gibson. If I sin against Mel Gibson, he can forgive those sins against him. Danny Glover cannot forgive those sins against Mel Gibson, because he is not Mel Gibson. Only Mel Gibson is Mel Gibson – only he can forgive sins against Mel Gibson.

Follow the logic so far? Good.

But if you sin against God, who can forgive that sin except God Himself? So by forgiving the paralytics’s sins – sins against God – Jesus was showing that Jesus is God.

So here we go once more…

God is God. If a paralytics sins against God, God can forgive those sins against Him. You or I or Mel Gibson cannot forgive those sins against God, because we are not God. Only God is God – only He can forgive sins against Him. But Jesus could forgive sins against God… So that means Jesus is God.

Do you follow the logic? The teachers of the law could, which is why they immediately accused Jesus of blasphemy – for equating Himself to God!

And yes, the paralytic’s sins were forgiven…

But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . . .” He said to the paralytic, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. – Mark 2:10-11

PS. Note too Jesus calls Himself the Son of Man, another declaration of deity – see Daniel 7:13-14 for why, and Matthew 26:63-66 for where Jesus uses the same language as found in Daniel and the High Priest immediately realizes the declaration of deity (“He has spoken blasphemy!”).

How the Obama Administration Tackles Terrorism Attempts on American Soil

May 6, 10

First, quick roundup by Ann Coulter here.

Using the ongoing case of attempted NYT bomber Faisal Shahzad:

1) Immediately releases information on who they suspect in order to look like they’re doing something, tipping the perp off and causing him to try and make a hasty getaway.

2) Much-touted ‘the system that worksloses track of perp and then failed to stop him from buying a plane ticket, getting a boarding pass, getting past customs, and actually taking off. Despite perp being on the terror watch list for 11 years, they took him off the list shortly after Obama took office, despite his posting on terror sites since 2006.

3) Continues to put its focus on Conservatives and Tea Partiers as the real threat, which leads to these kind of totally unreal conjectures and the media having no clue as to perp’s motive. Even after the culprit is caught and confesses and it’s found out he hates Bush.

4) In the end, the day is saved and the culprit apprehended due to attentive T-shirt vendors and Jack Bauer not being popular among jihadists.

5) And remember: Don’t jump to conclusions. Unless you’re going to conclude that the perp is a white police officer or 80-year old lady Tea Partier.

Cheney can take a hike
Though terror acts have spiked
The border’s open wide
The CIA’s un-spied
Iran is nuclear now
While our President bows
And kowtows to despots

When airport types won’t quiz young Muslim men
But search nuns octogenerian
Then we know
Anything Goes!

Armed Indonesian Batman-Wannabes Fight at Bukit Jalil Stadium

May 5, 10

From The Star 5 May 2010:

Indonesians in show of violent force at stadium

KUALA LUMPUR: They came to the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil to attend a concert by artistes from their home country, but many of the Indonesian fans had more than just tickets.

They had come with bags containing parang and other sharp objects.

Two rival gangs later faced off outside the stadium where two men were injured on Sunday evening.
Deadly haul: Supt Abdul Rahim (centre) showing the weapons seized at the stadium last Sunday.

Police arrested 16 men and seized more than 40 weapons, said acting Cheras OCPD Supt Abdul Rahim Hamzah Othman.

“We saw some of them wearing white head bands and carrying sharp weapons.

“Surprised at our presence, all of them discarded bags containing sharp weapons by the roadside and fled,” he said.

It is believed the two gangs met at the car park to settle an old issue.

All the suspects were picked up outside the stadium while trying to escape from the police.

“In the bags, we found parang, hammers, steel pipes, wooden sticks and sharpened belt buckles,” said Supt Abdul Rahim.

He added that one of the two injured men was in critical condition at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre’s intensive care unit.

All the other men have been handed over to the Immigration Department for further action as they did not have valid documents.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possession of weapons at a riot.

The Star Opinion: Don’t Judge Teachers

May 5, 10

Response to my letter Teachers’ Complaints Valid and Reasonable.

From The Star Opinion 4 May 2010:

Don’t judge teachers

REFERRING to the letter “Teachers’ complaints valid and reasonable” (The Star, April 14), I totally agree with the writer that teachers deserve a break, including a little respect and sympathy. For those who think that teaching is easy, I believe they need to be in the profession before making that kind of judgment.

As a tuition teacher, my job is just to teach and I have no other non-teaching duties like attending meetings and co-curricular activities. Nevertheless, I still feel that teaching is not easy as you will encounter students with very poor performance and it is always a challenge to keep their mind focused and explain to them until they really understand what you are teaching.

One misconception many people have is that if you are good at a certain subject, you will have no problem teaching that subject. This is totally wrong as knowing the subject well and passing that knowledge to another person will require a lot of energy and more importantly, patience.

I always have Form Four Science stream students not knowing simple addition and subtraction of algebraic equations. These basic skills should have been mastered when they were at the PMR level.

At the SPM level, they should be concentrating on the new chapters but since they are not good at basic algebra, it will be a great discouragement when they cannot cope with what I am teaching.

As a result, they lose interest and start doing their own things or talking with friends during my class. To avoid this, I always have to keep their attention by cracking some jokes which is related to the subject.

Some parents may disagree with me by saying that it is the responsibility of a teacher to ensure students understand what is being taught. Well, perhaps I could offer them one suggestion: try to teach your child the subject you know the best and see how well he or she can understand what you are teaching – if the child is still paying attention after 15 minutes.

Parents have the right to punish their kids when they are not listening but teachers do not have the same right to do so nowadays. These days kids complain a lot even though they are wrong.

My point is, if we have difficulty teaching our own children for 15 minutes, just imagine if you are teaching 20 to 30 kids for four to five hours. Does teaching still sound easy?

TUITION TEACHER,

Ampang.

Man Dies After Trying to Take on Three Robbers

May 4, 10

From The Star 4 May 2010:

Good Samaritan stabbed to death during robbery
By M. SIVANANTA SHARMA

NIBONG TEBAL: A bachelor, responding to a cry for help from his elderly neighbour, ended up dead after he was knifed by a robber at Jalan Selamat in Sungai Bakap here.

Unemployed Mohamad Faizal Mohamad Zin, 27, had rushed over to his neighbour Husin Abdul Rahman’s home around 1.45pm yesterday upon hearing screams and saw three intruders, one of them wielding a knife.

He confronted the robbers but was stabbed repeatedly.

Mohamad Faizal collapsed and died.

The three men then fled the scene.

Initial investigations revealed that the three men had gone to Husin’s house and one of them asked for a glass of water, said OCPD Supt Shafien Mamat.

Husin, 84, invited them into the house.

When Husin brought the water from the kitchen, one of them shoved him into a room where he was gagged with a piece cloth.

The man then assaulted the old man while his accomplices stood outside in the living room.

Just before he was gagged, Husin managed to shout for help, a cry that Mohamad Faizal responded to.

The body of Mohamad Faizal was sent to Sungai Bakap Hospital for a post-mortem, while Husin was treated there for minor injuries.

The suspects managed to steal RM700 from a drawer in Husin’s house.

Supt Shafien urged eye-witnesses or those with information to contact the nearest police station.

One against three? The one is unarmed, and one of the three has a knife? Those aren’t favourable odds, even for a martial artist.

If it were a life-or-death situation that you’re already embroiled in, by all means fight for your life! But in this case, the old man wasn’t in danger of grievous harm – and certainly wasn’t a woman about to be raped – so the best course of action would have been to retreat to a safe place and raise the alarm or call the police.

I commemd Mohamad Faizal’s selfless, helpful and heroic attitude which I believe far, far more Malaysians could do with. However, know what you’re getting yourself into before headstrongly charging into trouble.

Like this other, less fatal case of trying to stop a crime in progress. And a rather sillier case of not knowing how to pick your fights.
