Obama Sued Bank to Force It to Give Out Risky Housing Loans – Precursor to Subprime Crisis

At The Jawa Report, see how Obama brought legal action against Citibank to force it to give the same number of loans to poor neighbourhoods (that happened to be predominantly Black) as it gives to rich neighbourhoods (that happened to be predominantly White).

Even though Citibank was already handing out super-risky loans its stockholders and investors would cry at night over, it wasn’t enough for Obama. Everyone had to be equal, even if it meant that those who worked hard to earn their money and spent responsibly to keep their money now had to fork over their life savings to those who had done neither.

Equal, but not fair nor just.

As any non-liberal-socialist-entitlement-parasite knows, poor people are less likely to be able to pay back what they owe.

Literally everything Obama touches turns to junk and rot… Including his much-touted community organizing.

Nice find. I hope it gets spread around.
I posted a poll and cordially invite you and your readers to vote. It is in the upper left corner.

    2. jezb1 Says:

While subprime loans went to large numbers of non-whites and low-income borrowers, studies show that these recipients were outnumbered by upper-income and white borrowers.

One study by Compliance Technologies, which consults to lenders, found that more than half of subprime loans that originated at the height of the lending frenzy two years ago went to non-Hispanic whites—and about 40 percent went to borrowers whose annual income was at least 120 percent of their local area’s median.

    3. jezb1 Says:

Citibank, now Citigroup, is currently surviving this crisis. Meanwhile, Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch, who were not regulated in any way shape or form in terms of the CRA, have both failed. It’s my understanding their demise was their own, ie. they were loving the secondary mortgage market and were fighting for market share in mortgage-backed securities, and were grossly undercapitalized in relation to their risk exposure.

When Banks foreclose, it is the marketable securities that go under the hammer first. That means those above subprime, which the dem supporters point too and say “see, it is not the subprime loans”.
It would be extremely stupid for any Bank trying to auction a subprime loan in these market conditions. Even the Black Muslim Obama, no matter how altruistic, wouldn`t touch it with a 10 yard pole.

    6. Stripes Says:

Abraham Lincoln said, “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.”

Unfortunately, the future of this country, as well as the fate of the Western world, depends on how many people can be fooled on Election Day, just a few weeks from now…

The current financial bailout crisis has propelled Barack Obama back into a substantial lead over John McCain– which is astonishing in view of which man and which party has had the most to do with bringing on this crisis.

It raises the question: Do facts matter? Or is Obama’s rhetoric and the media’s spin enough to make facts irrelevant?

Fact Number One: It was liberal Democrats, led by Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, who for years– including the present year– denied that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taking big risks that could lead to a financial crisis.

It was Senator Dodd, Congressman Frank and other liberal Democrats who for years refused requests from the Bush administration to set up an agency to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

It was liberal Democrats, again led by Dodd and Frank, who for years pushed for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to go even further in promoting subprime mortgage loans, which are at the heart of today’s financial crisis.

Alan Greenspan warned them four years ago. So did the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the President. So did Bush’s Secretary of the Treasury, five years ago.

Yet, today, what are we hearing? That it was the Bush administration “right-wing ideology” of “de-regulation” that set the stage for the financial crisis. Do facts matter?

We also hear that it is the free market that is to blame. But the facts show that it was the government that pressured financial institutions in general to lend to subprime borrowers, with such things as the Community Reinvestment Act and, later, threats of legal action by then Attorney General Janet Reno if the feds did not like the statistics on who was getting loans and who wasn’t.

Is that the free market? Or do facts not matter?

      And now this:

McCain spends most of his time at his rallies and town hall meetings lambasting his rival, often calling him a “co-conspirator” with congressional Democrats in what he argues are the seeds of the financial crisis at mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

“Will you assure us,” one woman asked, “that, as president, you will take immediate action to investigate, prosecute and name the names of the people actually responsible?”

      “I will,” McCain answered.

“The same people that are now claiming credit for this rescue are the same ones that were willing co-conspirators in causing this problem that it is,” he said, raising his voice to be heard over the crowd. “You know their names. You will know more of their names.”

      A Politically Correct Crash.

      q/
“Rather than just focus on Fannie/Freddie, let’s look instead at how politically correct liberals tried to suspend the laws of common sense over the last 30 years.

—A home borrower no longer needs good credit, documented adequate income, or savings for a down payment. Skin color, ethnicity…those are enough.

—Also, if you’re the right color/ethnicity you can go to college! Grades, no problemo! Haven’t saved the money? Again, that’s OK…we’ll lend you the money. And don’t worry about going to class…we won’t check. If you’re white, be sure to volunteer for the right (left) causes in high school.

—Isn’t it sweet that our government is so compassionate they actually advertise for more people to come sign up for food stamps?!

—Energy: we won’t “exploit” our continent’s vast natural resources. We’ll buy what we need from the oil sheiks. (Muslim? Shhhh. Cool people don’t notice that). Then we have those nice oil companies running “man on the street” ads criticizing— the oil companies! —for not investing enough in that lovely sounding thing called “alternative energy”.

—Our electoral system is the heart of our democracy, an essential ingredient to a successful business climate. It is almost thoroughly discredited now…but the perps are “people of color”, so we musn’t complain too loudly, lest we “offend” someone.

—New refineries, airports, nuclear power plants? Are you kidding?! Some snail darter might have to relocate a few miles away to a new stream.

Anyway. It wasn’t just Fannie and Freddie that got us here. It’s all the do-gooders, doing good with OUR MONEY. And now look what they’ve wrought. Sadly, I suspect they’re not unhappy with the results.” u/q

    13. jezb1 Says:

The 2003 proposed legislation to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac never made it to a floor vote in the Republican-controlled House or the Republican-controlled Senate of the 108th Congress. Because both these chambers were controlled by the Republicans, the Republicans were responsible for controlling the agenda and bringing the legislation to a floor vote, but the Republicans never did. So, the Democrats didn’t have a chance to vote on the legislation or block it w/ a filibuster.

The same happened to the 2005 legislation introduced in the 109th Republican controlled Congress. Again, the Republicans failed to bring the legislation to a floor vote, so Democrats didn’t have a chance to vote on the legislation or block it w/ a filibuster. Also, John McCain jumped on as a co-sponsor of the 2005 legislation in May 2006, more than a year after it was introduced in Jan. 2005, and a mere two months before the housing bubble burst.

Interestingly, when the Democrats gained control of the Senate and the House in 2007 (110th Congress), and when Barney Frank first chaired the House Financial Services Committee and the committee had a Democratic majority, and when Chris Dodd first chaired the Senate Banking Committee and the committee had a Democratic majority, the again re-introduced Fannie/Freddie regulatory legislation made it outside of both committees, and the Democrats, who then had control of both chambers’ agenda and were responsible for bringing the legislation to a floor vote, actually did bring it to a floor vote. The bill finally passed Congress in May 2008. The legislation is known as the Federal Housing Finance Regulatory Reform Act of 2008.

How EXACTLY did the Democrats block the legislation?

    14. jezb1 Says:

Those are the results of deregulated lending practices. The independent mortgage companies pushed for this. They LOVED writing these loans, and it worked great when there was a housing bubble. If someone defaulted on their mortgage, they could foreclose on the house and sell it at a profit, meanwhile collecting fees for both situations.

-wits0

Do you realize that offshore drilling was first signed into executive moratorium by Ronald Reagan? George H.W. Bush then extended the executive moratorium, followed by Bill Clinton. Was all that accomplished by just Democrats? I’d have to say no.

Also, Florida governor Republican Charlie Crist used to support the ban on offshore drilling. He’s only reversed his decision since this summer. Another Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzennegger, also opposed offshore drilling, and he still does!!

The oil companies have under CURRENT LEASE 68 million acres of federal land they have done nothing with. Why haven’t they begun drilling on this yet? What’s the hold up?

And, what’s their reason for not building more refineries? I would like to know the answer to that.

“Barack Obama, congressional Democrats and Progressive-Left operatives – with the help of the mainstream media – have done a great job of spinning culpability for the mortgage crisis onto the Bush Administration, congressional Republicans and, in particular, John McCain. This is a notable moment in the history of political spin because as the facts present, Democrats and Progressive-Leftists – not Republicans –are the ones directly responsible for the current financial crisis in which our country is embroiled. At the center of this culpability are Barack Obama and ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

In order to understand how Barack Obama and ACORN are directly to blame for the mortgage meltdown, we first have to understand what ACORN is and how Barack Obama was affiliated with them…and make no mistake; Barack Obama was most definitely affiliated with ACORN….”

Barney Frank has been in a “scandal” involving his homosexual lovers before. Barney Frank is the Democrat chairman of the House Banking Committee who played a major role in blocking reform legislation on Fannie Mae all of these years (since the 1990’s, when even Bill Clinton was trying to obtain more oversight over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, even though Clinton Administration people were a major force in the expansion of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into ever more risky loans–with Clinton Administration official and Obama crony Franklin Raines becoming CEO of Fannie Mae and inflating his own compensation with questionable loans and accounting).

It turns out that Barney Frank had a homosexual lover who was an official of Fannie Mae for a good part of teh 1990’s, when Frank was one of the main House members (since his committee was responsible for “oversight” legislation of financial institutions).

What would happen if this were a Republican, like Larry Craign? You know. There would be a major scandal. In fact, if a Republican hand been involved in any heterosexual relationships as questionable as some of the homosexual relationships of Barney Frank, there would have been several major scandals. However, Frank is a Democrat homosexual, which makes him off limits to mainstream media attack, even when his actions have resulted, as much as any person, in the present mortgage crisis.

Phil Gramm, who was John McCain’s chief economic advisor until
July 2008, was responsible for introducing the bill that became the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. It included the “ENRON LOOPHOLE”, which was written by ENRON, and allowed them to overinflate their stock price while manipulating California’s electrical power grid by shutting down substations in order to drive up energy costs.

At the time, Wendy Gramm, Phil Gramm’s WIFE, was sitting on the board of ENRON. What, it’s not a “scandal” because they’re in a heterosexual marriage???

In the last 40 years, there have been nine major surveys of editors and reporters who work for national media. The most they ever voted Republican in a national election was 14%; the more common range has been 4% to 7%.

This is one reason why no matter who wins a political debate, the media almost en masse repeatedly tell you their man won. And most voters who don’t pay close attention will believe them. It’s called coordinated propaganda.

What were the most consistently repeated and strongly asserted slogans you’ve heard over the last few years? “We’re losing in Iraq . . . we must get out . . . it’s costing us $10 billion a month we could use here at home . . . we’re not any safer . . . the surge won’t work.”

What is your point? Phil Gramm was a Republican Senator from Texas.

Also, do you even know what the ENRON LOOPHOLE is?

    27. kesava Says:

      google search:

The “Enron loophole” exempts most over-the-counter energy trades and trading on electronic energy commodity markets from government regulation.[1] The “loophole” is so-called as it was drafted by Enron Corporation lobbyists working with U.S. Senator Phil Gramm to create a deregulated market for their experimental “Enron On-line” initiative.[2]

The “loophole” was enacted in sections (h)(3) and (g) of the Commodity Exchange Act, 7 U.S.C. as a result of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000, signed by U.S. president Bill Clinton on December 21, 2000.[1]

i.e. just before he left being potus.

    28. kesava Says:

The bad news for those who still worship Mr. Clinton is that Enron not only donated $100,000 to Clinton’s 1993 inauguration but, according to the records, also added an additional $25,000 to the Clinton 1993 celebrations.

The documented evidence shows that Enron did make it into the Clinton White House by special invitation. Senior Vice President Terrance H. Thorn had coffee with Bill Clinton on March 5, 1996.

Many of the other attendees of the Clinton White House coffee sessions also make up a long list of convicted criminals, arms dealers and bagmen for illegal DNC contributions.

For example, Wang Jun had coffee with Clinton in 1996. Wang is also the president of Poly Technologies, the largest arms trading firm owned by the People’s Liberation Army. Poly Tech is currently banned from doing business in the United States after several of its top executives conspired to smuggle machine guns into the U.S. for sale to a major drug dealer – who later turned out to be a Customs agent posing as a gangster.

Charlie “Yah Lin” Trie, who was later convicted of illegally passing hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Clinton/Gore re-election campaign, brought Wang into the White House. Trie also gave an additional $645,000 to the Democratic National Committee, and most of this money was from illegal foreign sources.

    29. kesava Says:

Ken Lay played golf with Bill Clinton. Clinton helped Ken Lay get a $3 billion power plant project in India for Enron. Four days before the deal went through, Enron gave $100,000 to the Democratic party.

      http://www.hereinreality.com/enron.html

    30. kesava Says:

McCain threw Gramm – now an investment banker with Swiss giant UBS — overboard and even suggested that the best appointment he’d get would be ambassador to Belarus, the last dictatorship in Europe.

Well, relations are defrosting with Belarus. But Gramm still didn’t even get a shout-out when McCain ticked off potential Treasury secretaries at the debate last night when moderator Tom Brokaw asked who he’d consider.

McCain named a billionaire investor who supports Obama, and the former CEO of eBay, who supports him.

There is a lot of qualified Americans, but I think the first criteria, Tom, would have to be somebody who immediately Americans identify with, immediately say we can trust that individual. A supporter of Senator Obama’s is Warren Buffet, he has already weighed in and helped to stabilize some of the troubles with companies and corporations, institutions today. I like Meg Whitman, she knows what it’s like to be out there in the marketplace, she knows how to create jobs. She was a CEO of a company that started with twelve people and is now 1.3 million people in America make their living off eBay.

    31. jezb1 Says:

What’s THIS??? Phil Gramm produced soft-core pornography films? WHAT?!?! This is way too funny!

“According to a 2008 article in The Nation, in 1973 Gramm, along with his brother-in-law George Caton, invested in a soft-core Pornography Film known as “Truck Stop Women: No Rig Is Too Big for Them to Handle”. Gramm advanced $15,000, but when that investment fell through, Gramm’s money was returned, and Caton promised him an opportunity to invest in the next film.

His subsequent attempt in 1974, “Beauty Queens”, met a similar fate, and Gramm again had $15,000 returned to him. In 1975, Gramm finally found a film to reach production in “White House Madness”, a soft-core pornographic political satire set in the White House during Nixon’s administration. When the film, which was criticized for its production value, flopped, Gramm lost his $7,500 investment. Gramm is not currently given production credit on the films IMDB page. Gramms involvement may be contributing to a post-box-office revival of the film, however, as it currently receives a decent IMDB rating of 6.5 out of 10.”

I’m laughing too hard to write the serious stuff surrounding Phil and Wendy Gramm and ENRON!!
