Ace of Spades on Politicians Appealing to Folks as ‘One of Them’

A good dissertation over at Ace of Spades here on the theory that politicians who successfully gain popularity with the masses manage to sell their ‘similarity’ to certain groups who are actually philosophically different from themselves.

Examples discussed include strongly conservative Sarah Palin who appeals to right/left neutral independents, far-left liberal Barack Obama who appeals to supposed conservatives, and how the liberal media portrays their favoured protestors as diverse, ordinary folk while painting the Tea Parties as full of dangerous fringe kooks.

According to FOX News corespondent Carl Cameron, Palin is dumber than a sack of hammers.

  3. Scott Thong Says:

So srsly, what exactly has Palin said that is soooooooooo dumb?

Dumber than the stuff that’s come out of Biden’s mouth lately? (Like since, oh, forever?)

Or some of the gaffes, verbal and physical and logical, that Biden’s first articulate and bright and clean-cut Obama’s been providing us? Like bowing, using a teleprompter with kids, snubbing Netanyahu, making the Dalai Lama go out with the trash, and reducing our insurance premiums by 3000%?

Yeah, we’re sure glad we dodged that moron Palin and her palm notes!

  4. Ron Says:

I don’t know about you, but personally, I don’t trust the launch codes with someone who is unable to identify her neighboring countries. Be a shame if she accidentally nuked Singapore because she mistook it for an Afghani suburb. 😉

  5. Scott Thong Says:

Let’s wait three years and see if McCain passes away, then we’ll talk about What-If-PRESIDENT Palin.

It’s pretty telling that from the get-go, everyone was comparing how hopeless she is compared to Obama – as if she were running for the Presidency rather than McCain.

  6. Scott Thong Says:

In retrospect, President or Treasury Sec. Romney might be somewhat more capable of turning the economy and unemployment around…

  7. Ron Says:

Polls taken in 2008 showed that American voters were leery about McCain’s age and health. The “what if Palin has to step in and take over” question seemed a very real possibility.

  8. Robert Says:

Scott you speak as though you are a citizen of the USA. Are you?

Sarah has found her calling in the Nueva Celebrity circuit. I think she is smart enough to realize that she’s blown any prospects for future political prospects, the “Quitta from Wasila” associating herself often with the Tea Brigands, sheep of different color bleating off key in search of some common thread beyond “We hate Obama cuz he’s a darkie!” The leaderless herd often goaded to panic by wolves in Conservative clothing that they welcome with guns on hips and signs held high heralding their disjointed and awkward proclamation as a legitimate voice in America, unabashed at their perception as nothing more than an ignorant rabble. but the first amendment does allow them to provide that huge majority of the rational with comic relief.

  9. Ron Says:

Hey, Palin’s got her own show on FOX now, though I hear it didn’t do well in the ratings. Maybe if she shows more cleavage and wears a short skirt Ole ‘Riled-up will use her as eye candy on his show.

  10. Simon Thong Says:

Ron, whatever else you may be, I can’t imagine you being an mcp!

  11. Ron Says:

    No, but apparently Bill-O is:

I know you don’t think much of polls, but: Demographically, the Tea Parties Look a Lot Like America – including 6% being black – and The Political Diversity of Tea Parties – 57 percent Republican, 28 percent Independent and 13 percent Democratic.

Again, Dems and Congress dismiss the Tea Parties at their own risk. Ignorant or stupid or reactionary or racisthomophobicmurderers or whatever, the numbers they represent are nothing to be sneezed at. A moron’s vote is still a vote, no?
