Hishamuddin Says Local Journalists Ethical, Some Bloggers Aren’t and Spread Hate Instead

December 16, 09

From The Star 15 Dec 20909:

Some bloggers are unethical, claims Hishammuddin

KUALA TERENGGANU: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein claimed that some bloggers, unlike local journalists, do not adhere to the rules and ethics of journalism in their bid to garner popularity.

Local journalists adhered to ethics but these bloggers did not, and this was what differentiated the journalists from these bloggers, he said at the presentation of the 2009 ExxonMobil Journalism Awards here on Monday night.

Hishammuddin claimed that journalists in the country would have nothing to fear so long as their reports adhered to the ethics of journalism, adding that they would be accepted by the people.

He also claimed that journalists who reported the truth would not be penalised and those who spread slander would not be successful. — Bernama

From The Star 16 Dec 2009:

Hisham slams bloggers who spread politics of hate

KUALA TERENGGANU: The existence of bloggers who are out to spread “politics of hate” can be detrimental to national progress, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said these bloggers had manipulated freedom of speech to disseminate lies and slander in cyberspace.

“There is no credibility in some of their postings while articles are fabricated and sensationalised in an attempt to gain popularity,” he said after presenting awards at the 2009 ExxonMobil Journalism Award here on Monday.

Hishamuddin said the advent of the new media had somewhat altered the reporting style adopted by mainstream journalism.

“Journalists are pressured to keep pace with updates, especially upon realising that netizens will make comparison between articles in the blogosphere and those in the mainstream,” he said.

Hishammuddin said an element that differentiated journalists from bloggers was the adherence to a code of ethics and rules by the editorial board of mainstream media.

“Mainstream journalists should preserve this code of ethics and at any time, avoid emulating the style of certain irresponsible bloggers.

“Younger journalists should go back to the basics of journalism, which is to uphold a high level of integrity when reporting,” he said.

Hishamuddin also gave an assurance that local journalists had nothing to fear if they maintained fact and credibility in their work.

Like these journalists?

And this blogger?

And these politicians?

Remember what then-PM Badawi said:

If information in blogs, websites and online portals were incorrect, bordered on slander, caused disturbance or compelled the public to lose faith in the nation’s economic policies, their authors would be detained for investigation.

Does this apply to Utusan Malaysia and UMNOputras, we wonder?

After all, don’t ever forget exactly who is uttering these chiding words.

Hishammuddin’s Merdeka Message: UMNO and I Will Pay Dearly For Creating Racial Tension

September 1, 09

Hypocrisy Meter from theblogprof.

From The Star 31 Aug 2009:

Hisham:Create racial tension and you’ll pay dearly
By LOURDES CHARLES, FLORENCE SAMY and WANI MUTHIAH

SHAH ALAM: The Home Ministry will take stern action against any group that tries to create racial tension, says minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the security of the people and peace far outweighed any other issues in the country.

”Friday’s incident, if left unchecked, will lead to more conflicts and tense situations,” he warned.

“This is a very sensitive matter,” said Hishammuddin. “I am issuing a stern warning to any party or group not to resort or act beyond the confines of law that can be detrimental to the security and peace of the country.”

The Government, he added, would not bow to any pressure in matters involving race and religion.

A group of more than 200 people had marched to the Selangor state secretariat after Friday prayers to protest the relocation of a Hindu temple in Section 23, here.

The group had left a cow’s head at the entrance of the building.

Hishammuddin also suggested that Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and his exco members should meet the disgruntled group to sort out the matter amicably instead of leaving it to the local authorities.

He said the decision to relocate the temple was made by the excos and they should be held responsible for the move.

He also warned those instigating the Hindus through articles posted on the internet that the Police and the Malaysian Commission and Multimedia Communication, together with the Attorney-General’s chambers, were monitoring such actions.

Meanwhile, Upko president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok said there was no room for extremism in Malaysia.

Expressing regret over Friday’s incident, Dompok said such action would divide the people, not unite them.

To date, more than 50 police reports have been lodged at the Shah Alam district police headquarters over the protest.

So… How much are you charging yourself ‘dearly’ for this:

Once Again UMNO Hypocrisy – Hishammuddin Don’t Like Boo’s Apartheid Remarks

July 6, 09

Hypocrisy Meter from theblogprof.

Hishammuddin is bringing up this old case again.

From The Star 6 July 2009:

Hisham: Probe Boo over ‘seditious remarks’

KOTA BARU: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has directed the police to investigate Johor DAP head Dr Boo Cheng Hau for apparently uttering remarks which could be seen as seditious.

The Home Minister said he was informed that Dr Boo had repeated claims that Malaysia practised apartheid similar to the once-infamous South African governance system.

Dr Boo, who is the Skudai assemblyman, was reported to have made the remark at the Johor state legislative assembly last year and had allegedly repeated it at a Chinese Society Association function in Batu Pahat last Tuesday.

“Stop it. I will not compromise if someone under the freedom of expression or democracy makes a totally untrue remark which can threaten security and peace,” said Hishammuddin.

“There is no compromise for a naughty remark which is designed to sow hatred,” he added after attending a briefing on security preparations for today’s nomination of the Manek Urai by-election.

Hishammuddin said although Dr Boo’s remark was first made under the confines of the state assembly where assemblymen enjoyed immunity, there was a limit to what could be uttered at the sitting.

“We will study the scope of the immunity accorded.

“We cannot compromise if it is seditious,” he added.

Hishammuddin said he had been studying the manner in which some quarters in the Opposition practised politics.

“They politicised issues at all costs,” he said.

“They also withhold of any responsibility and do not care if the country descends into chaos,” Hishamuddin added.

Is this feller talking about the Opposition, or himself and his own party???

And as I said before on Boo’s invoking apartheid: He say wrong meh? Apartheid was once the rule in South Africa, but today even Chinese in South Africa are considered ‘African Bumiputera’.
