Malaysiakini Letters – Climate Change Mitigation = Insanity

December 14, 09

From Malaysiakini letters.

Be sure to check out the comments by Mr M who accuses me of living in a dream world where I can’t see the effects of a warming world, yet obviously did not even bother clicking on the single link to see the citations and evidence (including photos) I collected.

Standard troll who barely skims through a post he disagrees before attacking a straw man fantasy.

Climate change: do we really want to join this insanity?
Scott Thong Yu Yuen

I refer to the letter Climate changes but no changes in M’sian strategy. Let me say that I agree totally with any efforts to adapt to climate change.

Since the beginning of our planet’s history, climate has been changing – from the ice ages to the Medieval Warm Period to our present time. It is only sensible for us to keep adapting to the constant change that the planet has wrought since long before we lit the first cooking fire.

However, the writer seems to focus only on strategies to mitigate climate change – carbon neutrality, renewable energy, environmentally-friendly products, Copenhagen COP 15. All of these measures are based on the theory that carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will drastically change the climate through the phenomenon known as global warming.

Quite frankly, the theory that carbon dioxide is the main driver of global temperature has been battered left, right and centre by recent events.

First, the actual data shows that for throughout the known temperature record stretching back tens of thousands of years, temperature rises first – followed 800 years later by carbon dioxide. Got that? Temperature rise causes carbon dioxide increase. In essence, this is the reverse of what the global warming theory says, unless the modern world somehow follows totally different laws of physics from the past.

Second, even as carbon dioxide levels have been steadily rising with every passing year, there has been no increase in recent temperatures. The BBC reports, ‘For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures…even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise’.

Even global warming researchers concur on this point, with the East Anglia Climatic Research Unit (CRU) researchers admitting in the Climategate files: ‘I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.”

Another email says, ‘The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t’.

Climategate has rocked the world of science with its admissions of no recent warming, coupled with a conspiracy to tamper with the data so that the end result would fool the public and policymakers into seeing warming. I suggest that the reader do an Internet search for the term.

Third, the real world itself testifies against global warming. Arctic ice levels are the same today as in 1979, with sea ice increasing at record rates. Antarctic ice levels are today at the highest levels ever measured, with continental ice increasing at record rates.

In 2008, China had its coldest temperatures in 100 years, Pakistan in 70 years, Sydney in 50 years, Mumbai in 40 years, and Takijistan in 25 years. Snow fell in the deserts of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates for the first times in known history. More evidence here.

Fourth, the Copenhagen Treaty and its predecessor the Kyoto Protocol are a waste of time, resources and public attention. If carbon dioxide doesn’t actually cause global warming, then what is the whole point of restrictions on carbon emissions?

If Kyoto and Copenhagen were cost and drawback free, then there would be no problems with implementing the recommendations – just for fun!

However, the facts belie that fantasy. For Germany alone, in 2005 alone, adherence to the Kyoto Protocol cost 6.2 billion Euros in increased energy costs. Continued adherence is estimated to result in a loss of 18.5 billion Euros by 2010 – and that’s without applying the stricter parameters negotiated at Copenhagen.

How about more recent results? Australia’s Kyoto-styled Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme is due for 2010. Starting steps towards it have already caused electricity prices to shoot up 22%, with a predicted doubling of energy costs by 2015.

And what has all this massive spending actually accomplished? Unfortunately, nothing – since the Kyoto Protocol was enacted, the European Union only had a 1.5% decrease in carbon emissions, instead of the Kyoto Protocol target of 8% decrease. Signatory Japan even had an 8% increase, and Canada a 22% increase.

So even if carbon dioxide does cause global warming which leads to catastrophic climate change (and it doesn’t), restrictions on carbon emissions simply do not achieve their stated goal – while tossing literally billions into the furnace, during a global recession no less!

Do we really want Malaysia to join in this insanity? For I recall that Einstein had another, more well-known adage: ‘Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results’.

Copenhagen is just a repeat of the failed policies of Kyoto, in fact, done more extremely. To expect it to achieve anything but waste even more billions is insane. Malaysia should have no part in this madness.

And yes, Einstein may have been right when he said, ‘We can’t solve the problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them’.

But I’ll counter with two other adages: ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ and ‘Don’t use a hammer to swat a fly’. That is, if human activity is not really causing catastrophic climate change, then don’t implement measures that cripple our economic capabilities while achieving absolutely nothing. Instead, spend some of those wasted billions on adapting to the climate change that we cannot control.

Don’t get me wrong – I am strongly supportive of real environmental measures such as rainforest conservation and bio-diversity preservation. I am even in favour of weaning off fossil fuels – gradually and guided by market forces, not prematurely and forced along by draconian laws.

But please – let’s not waste any more time, money and public attention of global warming. We could better spend those billions lost through adherence to carbon limits on providing clean water to Third World countries, cleaning up Beijing’s choking smog and fixing our injured economies.

Let’s Throw Shoes at Others Besides Bush (‘Cos He Actually Saved Iraq)

December 18, 08

Malaysiakini put up my facts-based letter here.

Waiting for KTemoc to give me a new title after ‘Leading Malaysian Neocon’.

I also use the same facts to show up the admin writer batsman in Malaysia Today at the comments here.

Throw shoes at not at Bush Throw shoes at not at Bush

Let’s throw shoes at others besides Bush
Scott Thong Yu Yuen | Dec 17, 08 4:20pm

Recently, Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi made headlines when he took off his shoes and threw them at President George W Bush, in order to show his displeasure at the US president’s policies.

It made me wonder if Muntadhar al-Zaidi misses the glory days of that most beloved of benevolent peacemongers, Saddam Hussein. It also made me think about throwing some shoes of my own.

Solely in terms of numbers: Roughly one million Iraqis died under Saddam’s reign, averaging 50,000 deaths a year.

Under the American ‘oppressors’, only an average of 6800 deaths occured a year – and the rate decreases daily.

Most of the deaths were caused not by US troops nor by Iraqi soldiers, but by foreign terrorists who felt that the suffering or ordinary Iraqis were a small price to pay for embarrassing the ‘crusaders’. Can someone please throw some shoes at Al-Qaeda now?

And may I remind you that under the Bill Clinton-era embargo, the United Nations reported that more than one million Iraqis had died from nine years of deprivation (more than 100,000 a year) – with 567,000 of them children under the age of five.

Muntadhar could therefore consider Clinton twice the murderer as Saddam, and 14 times the murderer as Bush.

Yet I don’t see Muntadhar throwing shoes at Clinton. Maybe he’s just waiting for Baghdad to book a seminar where Clinton will give one of his expensive talks.

Thanks to the evil Bush’s imperialistic abuse of international law, South Africa and even the city of Chicago have a higher violent crime rate for their population than Iraq does. Shoes ought to be thrown at the leaders of those places.

Oil production has also increased far beyond the post-Gulf War period, with profits going to the rebuilding of Iraq’s infrastructure. May I remind you that any oil that was pumped out under Saddam’s rule went not to the common Iraqis, but straight into Saddam’s pockets – or those of corrupt UN officials involved in the Oil-For-Food scandal. Shoes ought to be thrown at them instead.

I suggest that Malaysian media seriously consider sending an entourage of reporters to Iraq to interview the local people and compose a photo essay. It won’t be all that dangeroues. After all, western reporters can now walk around Baghdad without body armour or armed escort.

Just like all the smiling men, women and children can now go to the market, enjoy amusement park rides (yes, they have them in Iraq!) and play soccer without having to fear a visit from Saddam’s enforcers or roving gangs of terrorists.

Muntadhar may hate Bush, but it looks like someone forgot to tell the millions of liberated pro-Bush Iraqis that he is a heartless mass murderer who deserves our vilification.

See also the kind of inhumane torture Bush forces upon the Guantanamo Bay detainees, including:

Air conditioning, Christina Aguilera music, Red Hot Chilli Peppers (the band, not the spice), so much food to choose from they get fat, Islamic prayer 5 times a day, free Korans, free Game Boys, movie nights, English classes, arts classes, exercise equipment, and more stuff so horrifying that they beg to stay.

Malaysia’s ISA, the Gitmo Holiday Club is not.

Scott South sent in a letter to Malaysiakini agreeing with me and telling about how the Middle East has been anti-US for 50 years (about the length of the existence of kick-a$$ Israel, so that’s probably the explanation there), and made me realize a goof of mine: Iraq has a lower violent death rate, not crime rate as I mistakenly put!

Though I don’t think Bush is really even close to being a tyrant…

Bush not as bad as he’s made out to be
Scott South | Dec 18, 08 4:25pm

I refer to the Malaysiakini article Let’s throw shoes at others besides Bush.

As an American who once lived in KL, it was pleasant to read the writer’s comments about George Bush not being the worst tyrant in the world, much as I dislike him.

Next month when Barack Obama becomes president, we will embark on the long road to economic and image recovery.

The Gulf Wars, meanwhile, have been over-rated for their negative effect on the image of America in Muslim countries.

Arab and other Islamic countries have hated America for 50 years. Long before Sept 11, the racist, hate-mongering comments in the Dubai Gulf News vilifying the American people (not just the government, but the people) were horrendous.

Meanwhile, the Dubai government college where I taught was a place where Americans regularly received preposterous emails from students accusing them of being Jews and spies.

As for Sept 11, many Arabs are still convinced that those attacks were perpetrated by the CIA to make Muslims look bad. Nothing ever changes in the Arab world.

I just have one small bone to pick in the above article: the writer describes Chicago as having a greater crime rate than Baghdad.

Actually, Houston, San Francisco and Chicago, according to a recent survey by a prestigious British think tank, have considerably lower violent crime rates than London.

This survey rated 215 world cities, and Baghdad ranked dead last in safety.

Impose law and order on the JB Custom & Immigration Quarantine Complex

December 16, 08

My gripe about my experience which happened today, with the new Custom & Immigration Quarantine Complex (Bangunan Sultan Iskandar) in Johor Bahru that opened today, that was written up in word form today, and sent to Malaysia Today and Malaysiakini today. Promptness, the great advantage of New Media!

I doubt the relevant authorities will be reading Malaysia Today or Malaysiakini, however. They never do except to bash them.

From Malaysia Today:

Custom & Immigration Quarantine Complex CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar JB    Custom & Immigration Quarantine Complex CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar JB

Impose law and order on the JB Custom & Immigration Quarantine Complex

On Tuesday, the 16th of December 2008, the new Custom & Immigration Quarantine Complex (Bangunan Sultan Iskandar) began operations in Johor Bahru. As one of the thousands of Malaysians who commutes to work in Singapore daily, I was a firsthand witness to the new system.

Overall, I must say that I am impressed by the facilities of the CIQ Complex – and more so by the security and verification measures that the old customs system sorely lacked.

However, I have one very serious gripe that I hope the CIQ Complex management will immediately seek to rectify.

Once a bus passenger clears the passport check, the next process is to head back down to the bus waiting area to try and catch a bus. On a workday morning, this step is literally a descent into madness.

If any reader has ever taken a bus from Malaysia to Singapore at the old customs complex, they’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Just like always, the bus crowd becomes a literal rabid mob!

BN Will Do Everything to Defeat the Social Ill of Alternative Media… I Mean, Cyber Cafes

July 8, 08

Via I am Malaysian, from The Star:

KUALA LUMPUR: All cyber cafes will have to close by midnight daily and operate only from the ground floor of buildings once the guidelines to control them are enforced.

Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin said that under the new guidelines, cyber cafe operators were also banned from using tinted glass.

“The new rule also requires those below 12 years old to be accompanied by their parents or guardians to cyber cafes and they are only allowed to stay until 10pm,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

Hamzah said cyber cafes were also banned from other co-business activities, including having games, gambling, pornography, music and publications with negative elements.

“Cigarettes and alcohol cannot be sold or consumed at these premises,” he said.

Hamzah said operators were required to keep a register to record the entry and departure time of their patrons.

“This is to ensure that all patrons are checked by operators at all times. The owners of the business must also send the names of students who come to their premises to their schools,” he said.

Hamzah said some students had been found to play truant by changing their uniforms and visiting cyber cafes during school hours.

Over here in JB, near my workplace, is a cyber cafe called KingSurf (KS for short).

It is a massive premise, three stories high with a huge lighted-up sign on the outside saying KS in striking colours against a blue background. It has clear glass paneling so that anyone can look inside and see the 100+ computers it has… 100+ on each floor!

Kids are allowed, but no students in school uniform. Soft drinks, snacks and ciggies are sold at the counter, but smoking is strictly outside or in the toilet.

Everyone who goes there is playing games, emailing or watching Youtubes. But mostly games, be it DotA, CounterStrike, those pretend-you-are-playing-music games, or various online RPGs (e.g. World of Warcraft, Ragnarok Online and those Chinese ones.)

No porn is allowed, or it is well hidden from prying eyes – it’s hard to pull off when all PC screens are in the open and facing the open air. No gambling or whatnot either.

There is a membership card that gives discount for usage, and even an affiliated cafe next door. It is an intergrated business. Patrons of all ages up to 40+, but mostly guys between teenage to 30, come and lepak here between dawn to 3am and later.

A rough estimate for 300 computers at RM 2.50 an hour for just 12 hours a day means around RM 9000 gross income a day. And it is often at maximum capacity.

Now is the govt going to force this massive KS – which has other branches all over JB and KL – to reduce itself to one floor, switch off at midnight, and no longer have the ‘co-businesses’ of having games, selling snacks, drinks and opening a nearby cafe?

And what of the other cyber cafes even larger and more open and transparent than KS in Penang, Ipoh, KL, you name it?

Heck, let’s just demolish all cybercafes so our youth can go do more government-approved fun things during their free time like prostitution, gangsterism, crime, joining unlawful UMNO public rallies and of course, Monyet Khairy‘s favourite – Mat Rempiting.

Bwah ha ha ha ha ha! Amazingly, the 10,000 hits-a-day mark has finally been surpassed!

Bigger version that can be enlarged:

The most visited posts were, of course, to do with Saiful Bukhari accusing Anwar Ibrahim accusing Najib Tun Razak.

Direct links to them are here:

Kindly giving references to everyone I knew was blogging on the subject, including Malaysiakini, also helped through Trackbacks. I scratch their backs, they Trackback mine…

As you can see, many of the hits came from Malaysiakini. The hits started rolling in as soon as this appeared:

And not forgetting Susan Loone, whose provocatively-titled post reached Top 5 on WordPress, and by coincidence featured one of my much older posts as an automatically-generated link (and her post was EMPTY except those things for a long while!):

Susan’s blog was Number 1 WordPress blog on 3 July 2008, btw. And I’ve already mentioned her post Anwar Ibrahim to be arrested in 48 hours!? was 5th top WordPress post:

The remainder of visits came from people who were searching for the latest info, who then went from my blog on to more renowned sources:

Thank you all kindly… SUCKERS!!!

PS. 4th of July got me into the TOp 26 WordPress blogs…

Even though I had fewer hits than 3rd of July.

Pedra Branca / Pulau Batu Puteh Goes to Singapore

May 24, 08

From The Star 24 May 08:

Decision resolves 28-year-old dispute

The 28-year dispute over the ownership Pulau Batu Puteh is over with the International Court of Justice awarding it to Singapore.

However, the court in The Hague awarded Malaysia the ownership of Middle Rocks, a group of rocks located 0.6 nautical miles (1.1km) south of Pulau Batu Puteh, or Pedra Branca as it is known in Singapore.

The ICJ did not determine the ownership of South Ledge, a smaller group of rocks 2.1 nautical miles (3.8km) south of Pulau Batu Puteh, stating that its sovereignty would depend on whose territorial waters it was located in.

Case acting president and ICJ vice-president Judge Awn Shawkat AlKhasawneh delivered the decision, which is binding and not subject to appeal.

According to The Star 24 May 08, the reasons for the International Court of Justice awarding the island to Singapore:

Three reasons why island went to S’pore

Failure to show ownership over Pulau Batu Puteh, maps that indicated Singapore’s sovereignty over the island, and a reply from a Johor state official saying that the state did not have sovereignty over the island were some of the reasons why Malaysia lost its case.

International Court of Justice case acting president Judge Awn Shawkat Al-Khasawneh, when delivering the court’s decision in The Hague yesterday, said Johor initially had sovereignty over the island.

However, Johor and subsequently Malaysia lost its ownership to Singapore because of those reasons.

Anyone thinks that the judges’ decision was unofficially influenced a bit by the fake-tography on the fake-o-bloggy thing?

What if Thailand had sent its army and tanks into Malaysia? And then what if Bangkok were to host the 2020 Olympic Games?’

Scott Thong Yu Yuen: As our nation’s leader warn against Malaysians holding protests against the Beijing Olympics, I feel compelled to ask a pertinent question – what if Thailand had sent its army and tanks into Malaysia and conquered the entire Peninsula? And then what if Bangkok were to host the 2020 Olympic Games?

Would Malaysians be all smiley and happy-happy about the Olympic Torch relay while our country remained occupied as a ‘rightful province of historic Greater Siam’? Would our neighbours keep officially silent about the gradual replacement of Malaysian multi-culture with Thai customs and norms, just to stay on the good side of the Thai economic giant?

Would our mainstream media newspapers only print letters that bash the West for daring to criticise and politicise the Thailand Games? Heck, what if instead of China Olympics and Tibetan protestors, they were having Israel Olympics and Palestinian protestors? Do you think that the same people calling for the Olympic Games not to be politicised would keep singing the same tune? Do you think that our politicians would call for public restraint, or public protests?

(If you want a hint, just look at the recent hoo-ha over two Israeli members in an English football team who came close to being denied entry to our tolerant nation.) In my honest opinion, it is totally one’s prerogative to protest whatever you want or to condemn whatever protest is being held.

Just don’t act as if you yourself are completely just, righteous and fair-minded. Be honest and admit your highly political biases. I looked at my nation in the mirror, and saw only hypocrisy.

ISA Snatches CHRISTIAN Children’s Books For Containing Illustrations of CHRISTIAN Prophets

Malaysia Confiscates Christian Children’s Books

Illustrations of prophets deemed offensive to Muslims.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — (Compass Direct News) — Adding to the furor over whether non-Muslims have the right to use the word “Allah” in their publications and religious practice, on January 11 online news agency Malaysiakini reported that officials confiscated English-language Christian children’s books because they contained images of prophets.
The government reportedly said Internal Security Ministry officials confiscated the books because their illustrations of prophets offended the sensitivities of Muslims. Islam, which shares some prophets in common with Christianity, prohibits the portrayal of prophets.

Enforcement officials of the Publications and Al-Quran Texts Control Department under the Internal Security Ministry, headed by Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, reportedly confiscated the books from three MPH bookstores in Johor Bahru, Senawang and Ipoh in mid-December.

The books have been sent to the department’s headquarters in Putrajaya for investigation. Managers of the MPH bookstores reportedly said they will wait for the Internal Security Ministry’s decision on the books.

————————————

Okay, banning the use of a certain Arabic word by Christians is based on a flimsy enough excuse, and I can at least empathize with the feelings of being offended that lead to threatening death for drawing a certain person (but will never condone such violent and thuggish behaviour)…

But, come on! I mean, is it Christianity’s fault that you based your religion on Judeo-Christian beliefs?

What if some new religion sprouted up based off yours, and sued you because your scriptures are offensive to their beliefs which state that God forbids putting His word in writing?

Oh wait… You’ll just arrest them all without trial for being ‘blasphemous, apostate cultists.’ Win-win situation for you!

If one of your own buys those Christian books, looks inside and gets offended whose fault is that? Hello, it says CHRISTIAN BOOK all over it – go browse another section of MPH!

Like other bloggers imply – how long before churches are demolished because they utter ‘blasphemies’ like ‘Jesus is God’s son’?

Global Warming Hysteria: Why Atheists, Christians and Malaysiakini Readers Shouldn’t Believe It

December 17, 07

To the Atheists (or Agnostics):

You often say that you cannot believe that God exists, since no conclusive evidence that positively proves God’s existence can be found.

Well, similarly, there is still no conclusive evidence that proves global warming is caused by carbon dioxide emissions. There is only a theory and plenty of conjecture, but it has yet to be shown definitively that global temperature rise is caused mainly by carbon dioxide – and not solar fluctuations, water vapour or cosmic rays.

Yet the proponents of CO2-forced temperature theory have already discarded and branded as ‘heretical’ all other theories in the firm belief that their CO2 models are correct.

By believing that global warming is an imminent doomsday, End Times, apocalyptic, armageddonic End of the World… Are they not religiously putting their trust in prophecies based solely on faith, not reason or logic or cold hard evidence?

It is claimed that global warming is a proven fact, that all evidence points to it, that the vast majority of reputable scientists believe it, and that anyone who does not accept the truth of global warming is a religiously motivated pseudo-juunkscience moron who believes the Earth is flat and the centre of the universe, with the Sun revolving around it.

That is exactly what has been claimed about evolution for the past century.

Does that throw any perspective onto the so-claimed scientific consensus on global warming? Just because the secularists who control the sciences, education system and media say it is true, does not make it the truth.

To the Malaysiakini Readers:

Open up a newspaper or turn on the TV, and you will find only bad news about global warming. How climate change is jeapordizing our civilization. How more and more evidence points to human-produced carbon dioxide as the threat that will doom us all. How the United Nations and every sane scientist supports drastic measures to curb CO2 emissions.

But before you swallow the brainwash powder they are peddling, consider this:

The mainstream media is controlled by interests with a stake in perpetuating mass paranoia about ‘global warming’. They go to great lengths to discredit critics of the status quo on ‘global warming’, especially independent media. If they could, they would arrest and silence their critics for the crimes of heresy and public disorder against the establishment, which is firmly backed by the silent majority on ‘global warming’.

Now read the above paragraph again, only replace ‘global warming’ with ‘social contract’, political stability’ or ‘peaceful, tensionless race relations’.

I’ll put it to you bluntly: If you don’t believe anything the mainstream, Government Enslaved Media media has to say about politics, crime, social issues, religious issues, peaceful/violent demonstrations, corruption, fairness and justice…

Then why should you believe what it has to indoctrinate you about global warming either? Isn’t an honest pursuit of the truth why you go to non-government moderated sources such as Malaysiakini.com and blogs?

Badawi Will Use ISA on Street Protestors If Needed

November 28, 07

So it’s finally coming to pass. Once again when popular dissent begins to well up, it is immediately and foribly quashed by use of the Internal Security Act.

We will use Act against street protestors if we have to, says PM

PETALING JAYA: The Government will use the Internal Security Act (ISA) against street demonstrators who threaten national security and disrupt racial harmony if necessary, warned the Prime Minister.

“If there are reasons for us to use it, we will use it,” Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi stressed.

He was commenting on illegal street demonstrations held in Kuala Lumpur recently, including the latest by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), which claims to be fighting for the Hindus in Malaysia.

Abdullah said using the law, which allows for detention without trial, would be preventive action to spare the country untoward incidents that could affect its peace and national security.

“The ISA is there, if the situation warrants it, it will be used,” he told reporters at the RMAF air base in Subang here upon his return from Cairo yesterday.

On calls by certain quarters for the ISA to be invoked against illegal street demonstrators, Abdullah said: “I am very surprised that people want the ISA. I thought they never wanted it.”

The police, he said, would decide on the appropriate action to be taken.

On rallies being planned for next month, he said he would leave it to the police to assess whether they would be a threat to national security.

The annual Human Rights March organised by the Bar Council human rights committee is planned for next month.

Abdullah also warned that action would be taken against those who download and distribute the memorandum signed by Hindraf legal adviser lawyer P. Uthayakumar addressed to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, which had been published in the Internet. The memorandum alleges persecution of Malaysian Indians..

He said the Government acknowledged freedom of the Internet but action could be taken against those who misuse it to spread allegations against the Government.

The memorandum appeals to Britain to refer Malaysia to the World Court for crimes against ethnic Indians. It also claimed that “100 over Indians were slashed and killed by the Umno-controlled Malaysian government in the Kampung Medan mini genocide”.

To this, Abdullah said that if Hindraf had indeed made such claim, Umno would act.

“We want to know what proof they have (to support their claim). This is a serious accusation because they say it was Umno,” he said.

On Hindraf’s action, he said: “They want to kiss the orang putih (British). They want the orang putih to take action because they are not satisfied with us”.

Abdullah said Hindraf got support from the Indian community who thought they would each get RM1mil in compensation from its class-action suit filed against the British Government for bringing Indians into Malaya to work as labourers.

The Prime Minister also said that everyone must realise that accusations against the Government were made because certain people thought that the election was around the corner, and this was the case in every elections.

“But we hear what they say. Some of the demands are in the process of being addressed while some have been addressed but they are still harping on it,” he said.

On Cameron Highlands MP S.K. Devamany’s comment in Parliament that the Hindraf demonstration showed there was frustration at the lower levels in the community, Abdullah said the Government must be fair to all.

“If we focus on the interest of one group, others will be jealous, others will complain,” he said.

News article excerpts in bold italic. My analysis and comments follow each excerpt.

The Government will use the Internal Security Act (ISA) against street demonstrators who threaten national security and disrupt racial harmony if necessary, warned the Prime Minister.

‘Racial harmony’… UMNO’s particular definition of what constitutes ‘racial harmony’ would partly explain why the Government felt it could use the ISA on the HINDRAF protestors, who were probably exclusively Indian.

Whereas for the multi-racial Bersih Rally, they kept their hands off – instead using just chemical-laced water cannon, tear gas and shield bashes (as seen below and at link).

But as I’ve said before, it’s classic double standards and flip-flop stance shifting: The historic anti-Malayan Union protests were also almost exclusively Malays protesting for Malay rights. Should they then have been discounted, ignored and abused by the British before being arrested without trial?

On calls by certain quarters for the ISA to be invoked against illegal street demonstrators, Abdullah said: “I am very surprised that people want the ISA. I thought they never wanted it.”

I am not at all surprised, except at the (faked?) naivete of our PM. Of course certain quarters are calling for the use of the ISA. If you were to name them, you would find all the supremacists of certain groups, government cronies and political powermongers – not ordinary everyday folk who are at the mercy of sudden midnight detention.

On rallies being planned for next month, he said he would leave it to the police to assess whether they would be a threat to national security.

A real threat to national security, or just a political threat to Barisan Nasional power security?

Abdullah also warned that action would be taken against those who download and distribute the memorandum signed by Hindraf legal adviser lawyer P. Uthayakumar addressed to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, which had been published in the Internet. The memorandum alleges persecution of Malaysian Indians.

Here is where the bloggers are being indirectly threatened for not succumbing to Government Enslavement of the Media (GEM).

He said the Government acknowledged freedom of the Internet but action could be taken against those who misuse it to spread allegations against the Government.

Whoops, what was I just saying? Time for EVERY SINGLE BLOGGER WHO DOES NOT SUPPORT BARISAN NASIONAL to be arrested – because all of us have at least one allegation against the ruling party!!!

Claims such as the ones in this link I suppose.

On Hindraf’s action, he said: “They want to kiss the orang putih (British). They want the orang putih to take action because they are not satisfied with us”.

Absolutely spot on. Badawi seems to realize that the actual aim of the high-profile and quite absurd lawsuit against Britain was actually to highlight the grievances that many Malaysians have against the MALAYSIAN government!

The Prime Minister also said that everyone must realise that accusations against the Government were made because certain people thought that the election was around the corner, and this was the case in every elections.

Accusations are made continually, good sirs. It is just around election time that any of you bother to listen for grievances.

And after listening to our woes, your Deputy responds that we shouldn’t vote against Barisan even if we are dissatisfied with what it’s been doing to us!

“But we hear what they say. Some of the demands are in the process of being addressed while some have been addressed but they are still harping on it,” he said.

It’s been more than 40 years since Lee Kuan Yew got Singapore kicked out by demanding equal rights for all (all races, religions and even the Malay farmers and fishermen who gain nothing from rich Malay bigshots getting more % of the fat contracts) in a truly Malayasian Malaysia, a call which DAP is continuing up till today. (But not before some 1960’s Government Enslaved Media riot incitement, of course.)

The issue still has not been addressed. Is it any wonder then that there are still people harping on it?

Actually, it’s a minor miracle that there ARE still people who dare to raise the issue after the May 13 1969 incident, Ops Lalang in 1987, the recent Bersih Rally and HINDRAF rally police violence, and the repeated threats to bring back the bloodshed of Malaysia’s minorities.

THEN WHY DON’T YOU START TREATING ALL MALAYSIANS FAIRLY REGARDLESS OF RACE AND RELIGION??!!!

WE’RE JEALOUS RIGHT NOW!!! WE’RE COMPLAINING RIGHT NOW!!!

BUT ALL YOU DO IS SPOUT FUZZY RHETORIC WHILE WAVING THE THREAT OF THE ISA IN OUR FACES!!!
