Saiful Bukhari and P. Balasubramaniam – Spot the Differences

July 8, 08

When Saiful Bukhari made his allegations of sodomy, the mainstream media immediately published the identity of the accused – Anwar Ibrahim – while hiding the name of the accuser.

Earlier, a man claiming to be an aide of Anwar lodged a police report alleging sodomy by the PKR leader.

It is learnt that the man, in his 20s, lodged the report at a police beat base here at 5.45pm.

He is being treated at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

When P. Balasubramaniam made his allegations regarding Altantuya’s murder, the mainstream media at first quietly avoided mentioning the name of the accused – Najib Tun Razak – while publicly stating the name of the accuser.

Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda’s private investigator P. Balasubramaniam says the police omitted information about the relationship between a senior politician and Mongolian murder victim Altantuya Shaariibuu in his statement.

And for that matter, the accused were not named at first while the accuser was when Raja Petra Kamarudin made his allegations about Altantuya’s murder case either.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the three individuals named in the document filed at the High Court here on June 18 would also be called up.

Raja Petra had claimed that these individuals, one a prominent VIP, were present when Altantuya was killed on Oct 19, 2006.

When the controversy was in full swing, P. Balasubramaniam and his entire family suddenly disappeared from their home without warning. No one knows where to find them.

Whereas Saiful Bukhari and his family are all happy-happy, joy-joy.

And now, the police are looking high and low for P. Balasubramaniam. Interpol has even been roped in to help. (So much for ‘keep your noses out of our affairs you foreigners‘…)

Meanwhile, Saiful Bukhari enjoys round the clock police protection.

Readers are free to make their own conclusions and comment below.

Mahathir Definitely Likes Najib More Than Anwar

July 8, 08

An about turn!

From The Star 8 July 2008:

Mahathir: There’s a concerted campaign against Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is convinced that there is a concerted campaign against Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and that “somebody is behind it” besides Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The former prime minister said he could not understand why the Deputy Prime Minister was coming under constant attack, adding that he believed the allegations against Najib were all hearsay.

“There is a concerted campaign against Najib. I don’t know why. Not just by Anwar but also by this other chap (Malaysia Today editor) Raja Petra (Kamaruddin) and also a number of others.

“Somebody is working behind this, maybe to undermine Najib’s possibility of challenging the Prime Minister,” he said after calling on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is here to attend the 6th Developing Eight Nations Summit.

Dr Mahathir said there was no proof to the allegations against Najib.

“You can’t just say that I heard somebody did this. This is not proof,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said he could not understand why his former deputy (Anwar) was “going after Najib” when it was not the latter who reported on Anwar’s behaviour.

“I think he has always been attacking Datuk Najib. Maybe he thinks that Najib is standing in his way of becoming the Deputy Prime Minister or even the Prime Minister,” he said, adding that Anwar could never join Umno again as the party would not accept him.

This, from the man who has himself previously attacked Najib and undermined Najib’s credentials for the premiership.

Which may mean his mentioning that ‘somebody is behind the attack on Najib‘ besides Anwar (and Raja Petra) could actually be a veiled reference to what Conspiracy Theory Number 6 says.

First Lawyer Americk Says P. Balasubramaniam Coerced Into Retracting Statutory Declaration; Now Bala and Family Missing

July 5, 08

LATEST: July 5, 8.05pm, Malaysiakini – Desperately seeking Bala and familyIn the latest twist to the scandal, the private investigator’s nephew R Kumaresan today lodged a police report over the disappearance of his uncle, aunt and their children.

See below’s NST report for more details.

From The Star 4 July 2008:

I believe he was coerced, says lawyer Americk

KUALA LUMPUR: Americk Singh Sidhu, the lawyer who had prepared the first statutory declaration for private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, is convinced his client was intimidated to retract his declaration alleging the Deputy Prime Minister had a sexual relationship with Altantuya Shaariibuu.

He believed the private eye had been coerced “by either threats or promises as I can think of no other reason.”

He stressed that his client had made the first sworn declaration voluntarily without duress.

He said he had first met Balasubramaniam two months ago at a restaurant where he was asked by the latter to help draft a formal document on the Altantuya case.

The sworn declaration was made over a period of one-and-half months in several meetings with Balasubramaniam lasting hours, he said.

“I had no reason to doubt that what Balasubramaniam told me was anything other the truth.

“I was under the impression that he was a trustworthy person and what he said was what he perceived with his own senses,” he said Friday evening at a press conference at the PKR headquarters.

Also present was Americk’s counsel Manjit Singh Dhillon and PKR vice-president R. Sivarasa.

On Thursday, Balasubramaniam said the police had omitted vital information about Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s relationship with the murdered Mongolian translator including the fact that she wanted a US$500,000 commission for helping secure a submarine deal in Paris.

The private eye hired by Abdul Razak Baginda also told the press conference on Thursday how after the murder, he had seen an SMS message to Razak purportedly from the deputy Prime Minister telling Razak “I am seeing the IGP at 11am today…matter will be solved…be cool.” Americk said he was shocked that within 24 hours his client had engaged the services of another lawyer and made another statutory declaration swearing that the first one was untrue and that he had been forced to sign it.

“As I am familiar with the character of Mr Bala, having spent hours recording his statement, I am very sceptical that he signed the second statutory declaration of his own free will.”

Americk said after the press conference at PKR’s headquarters on Thursday, he left with Balasubramaniam for his office and noticed a number of calls to the private investigator’s mobile went unanswered.

He said Balasubramaniam told him they were from the police, one of which was from ASP Tonny Lunggan, the investigating officer of the Altantuya murder case.

When Americk told him that it was all right to answer the call, he said Balasubramaniam then spoke to ASP Tonny and the call was very lively and jovial.

He said when Balasubramaniam left his office at 4.45pm, he thought the private eye was going to meet ASP Tonny after 6.30pm for some fish head curry.

“He was in very good spirits when he left. I was also of the impression that ASP Tonny wanted to congratulate him for what he had done,” he said.

On why he did not advise his client about his personal safety, Americk retorted: “He was going to see the police. How much safer can you be?”

When reporters called Americk Friday morning about the second statutory declaration, Americk tried to reach his client but the latter could not be contacted, even up till Friday evening when the press conference was held.

And PKR concurs with Americk’s disbelief.

From The Star:

PKR ‘absolutely surprised’ by Bala’s retraction

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR is “absolutely surprised” that Abdul Razak Baginda’s private investigator P. Balasubramaniam had retracted his first statutory declaration which they insist he made voluntarily.

PKR vice-president R. Sivarasa said the retraction was something serious and called for an independent investigation and a Royal Commission of Inquiry.

He believed Balasubramaniam had been under pressure by “interested parties” to withdraw the first statutory declaration that had been released on Thursday where he alleged that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had a sexual relationship with Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu, among other things.

Balasubramaniam had also said in his first statutory declaration, that before Razak was arrested for abetting in Altantuya’s murder, he had showed him an SMS purportedly sent by Najib telling him to be cool and that everything would be resolved because he (Najib) was meeting with the Inspector-General of Police at 11am that day.

“Other than his statutory declaration, Bala (Balasubramaniam) spoke openly about it during the press conference (at the PKR headquarters on Thursday). You can tell from his demeanour that he was speaking voluntarily.

“Then he changes overnight. This is very unusual. There are two statutory declarations and the judge in the Altantuya trial needs to decide which one is the truth,” said Sivarasa who is a lawyer by profession.

He said it was obvious that someone or “interested parties” got Balasubramaniam to change his statement, adding that there was a pattern of manipulation in this.

“This has a bearing in criminal justice system,” he said.

Barely 24 hours after his first statutory declaration, Balasubramaniam made a second statutory declaration on Friday stating that his first statutory declaration was made under duress and as such he wished to retract its entire contents.

Sivarasa said he “is absolutely certain” that Balasubramaniam had made the first statutory declaration voluntarily.

“His lawyer Americk (Sidhu) will support that,” he said, adding that it was not PKR that engaged the lawyer for Balasubramaniam.

Sivarasa said that when Balasubramaniam first approached him about the Altantuya murder case, he advised the private investigator to get a lawyer and write down the details independently.

“I only saw the statutory declaration after it was completed,” he said.

At Thursday’s press conference organised by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim where Balasubramaniam released his first statutory declaration, he was present with his lawyer Americk.

On Friday however, for his second statutory declaration, Balasubramaniam engaged a different lawyer, Arulampalam Mariam Pillai.

Haris Ibrahim’s blog has more text of PKR’s reaction and some ponderage. compares Balasubramaniam’s demeanor from lawyer Americk’s point of view.

Compare to Malaysiakini report, Was PI intimidated or induced?Private investigator P Balasubramaniam’s sudden retraction of his allegations against Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak may have been due to intimidation or inducement, claimed PKR vice-president R Sivarasa.

And now Balasubramaniam and his whole family are missing!

From New Straits Times 5 July 2008:

Balasubramaniam in hiding?

Balasubramaniam family missing

RAWANG: All is quiet at the home of private investigator P. Balasubramaniam.

Checks yesterday afternoon revealed there was no one at home, except for two ferocious dogs left inside cages in the porch of the single-storey extensively-renovated terrace house. The dogs were each left with a bowl of water in their cages.

Even the neighbours were in the dark on the whereabouts of Balasubramaniam and his family.

“Normally the family would be here but early yesterday the whole family left in one of their cars.

“No words were spoken when they left, it was as if they were in a hurry,” said a neighbour.

Another round of shocking! Now Balasubramaniam retracts what he said about Najib vis-a-vis sex, murder and Altantuya. He says he was forced to sign yesterday’s statutory declaration!

So plot twisty and conspiracy-ey!

Who is pressuring P. Balasubramaniam? Did they force him to make a false Statutory Declaration yesterday, or are they forcing him to retract the truth now?

Are we now witnessing two elephants trampling the grass as they battle… Elephants with a viper for one’s trunk and a cobra for the other’s?

Via two STAR sms alerts, 11am 4 July 2008:

Razak Baginda’s PI P.Balasubramaniam has retracted several paragraphs of his statutory declaration which he made yesterday

PI P.Balasubramaniam retracted that DPM introduced Razak Baginda to Altantuya Shariibuu and that DPM had a sexual relationship with her

From The Star Online:

PI retracts parts of declaration

KUALA LUMPUR: Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda’s private investigator P. Balasubramaniam on Friday retracted several paragraphs of his statutory declaration which he made yesterday.

Among the parts retracted are that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak introduced Razak to Mongolian murder victim Altantuya Shaariibuu and that Najib had a sexual relationship with her.

On Thursday, Balasubramaniam claimed in a statutory declaration that the police had omitted pertinent information allegedly linking Najib with the Altantuya murder case.

Balasubramaniam on Thursday declared he had informed police what Razak had purportedly told him prior to Altantuya’s murder.

He revealed yesterday the content of the statutory declaration at a press conference organised by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim together with PKR office bearers, MPs and lawyers at the party’s headquarters.

He said Razak had told him that he was introduced to Altantuya by Najib at a diamond exhibition in Singapore and that Najib had told him that he (Najib) and Altantuya had had a sexual relationship and that “she was susceptible to anal intercourse”.

Balasubramaniam said Razak had also told him that Najib had asked him (Razak) “to look after” Altantuya, who was also known as “Aminah”, because he did not want her to harass him now that he was the Deputy Prime Minister.

He claimed Razak had told him that Altantuya had wanted money as she felt entitled to a US$500,000 (RM1.65mil) commission from a submarine deal that she had assisted the Malaysian Government secure in Paris; and that Najib, Razak and Altantuya all had dinner together in Paris.

‘Susceptible to anal intercourse’?!!! That’s exactly the kind of offense being leveled at Anwar! Really does sound like it was made up by someone as part of some conspiracy

Important part of the statutory declaration can be read at I Am Malaysian – Bala: I lied.. (And yes, I am being a one-stop link-shop.)

Full second statutory declaration is at Rocky’s Bru – I did 1st July SD under duress, Bala swear.

Najib Says Anwar’s Altantuya Statement is Just to Distract From Sodomy Case

July 3, 08

It’s on the 8 p.m. TV news right as I first type this.

Malaysiakini still doesn’t have it yet; the latest news is that Najib again denies links with Altantuya at 7.23pm. (They should hire me, I’d be online AAAAALLLLLLL the time to do this!)

From STAR sms updates:

Statutory declaration by PI P. Balasubramaniam is just to divert public attention from sodomy allegations against Anwar Ibrahim, says Najib

So Najib also dismisses it as a heinous lie made as ‘a very desperate attempt’ by Anwar. Though Anwar seems to be the one in control today, while Najib looks quite nervous on TV.

More info and links follow, but be sure to check the Comments at bottom of this post for personal testimonies of what people saw and heard on national television.

Via Anilnetto, a link to the NST report reveals this:

Najib counters Bala’s SD as ‘malicious lies’

DEWAN RAKYAT, July 3, 2008:

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said allegations that he knew and had met murdered Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu made in a statutory declaration by private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, were malicious lies aimed at smearing his image. Following this latest development, Najib reiterated what he had said earlier, that he never knew the woman or had ever met her.

“I am very sure this action is a desperate move by Anwar Ibrahim to divert attention from the sodomy allegation he is facing,” he told a press conference that was attended by scores of journalists at his office in Parliament here today.

Najib said what was important now was not issues raised as a diversion but the people wanted to know whether the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor (Anwar) had committed the offence (sodomy) as alleged.

“I hope the concerned parties will investigate the matter fully and make the findings public as soon as possible.” he said.

On the statutory declaration, Najib said because it conflicted with Balasubramaniam’s testimony in court (in Altantuya’s murder trial) and the statement given by him in his police report, he would leave it to the proper authorities to investigate the matter.

“The responsible parties must be ready to face the consequences if it is found laws had been broken,” he said.

Asked whether he would be making a police report against Balasubramaniam or take legal action against him, Najib said he left it to the police to take action.

Asked if he would describe this revelation as a personal attack on him by Anwar, Najib said: “The question is why it surfaces now, after the sodomy complaint was made (against Anwar). Suddenly everyone has come under attack, the Inspector-General of Police (Tan Sri Musa Hassan), Attorney-General (Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail), I, why now?”.

“But we cannot get sidetracked from the issue at hand, that is whether the sodomy happened or not …this is what we want to know,” he said.

Anwar yesterday lodged a police report at the Selangor police headquarters alleging Musa and Abdul Gani had concealed facts and fabricated evidence in the case involving the physical assault on him by former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Rahim Noor on Sept 20 1998.

A male aide of Anwar, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 23, on Saturday lodged a police report at the Jalan Travers police station here alleging that he had been sodomised by the former deputy prime minister at a condominium in Bukit Damansara in the city on Thursday.

Asked why he felt that Anwar was using the case to launch this attack against him, Najib said he was not sure.

“I do not know…maybe he thinks I am behind this boy (Mohd Saiful )but the truth is there is no conspiracy. Mohd Saiful came to see me alleging that he had been sodomised by Anwar,” he said.

The private investigator made available copies of his statutory declaration to the media at a press conference held at the PKR’s head office in Petaling Jaya near here today. Anwar was present at it.

Najib said when he was first told about the sodomy matter, he was not too sure whether it was true and preferred it to handled by the police.

Meanwhile, Najib also denied that he had any sexual relationship with Altantuya nor did he conspire to cover up her murder as alleged by Balasubramaniam in his statutory

“No, absolutely not, because I have never ever met her at all,” he said, admitting that he could take legal action (against those involved) but preferred to let the authorities handle the matter.

“What is more important is action is taken against the person because there are other definitions under the law like criminal defamation and such,” he said.

Asked if he felt the AG and IGP should not involve themselves in the investigation of this case as their names are also mentioned, Najib said: “Only if it concerned their own personal position, but they are still heads of the respective enforcement organisation and they must continue with their work”

“I am very relax about it, as you can see I am still smiling, I am not worried because the truth will prevail. I believe in the system, I believe that I have not done anything wrong, I have nothing to be worried about…life goes on as usual and as far as I am concern it is business as usual,” he said.

On whether he is willing to submit himself should there be futher investigation on the case, Najib, instead, posted back a question to the reporter, asking him to give one good reason of why should he be investigated.

The police has investigated the entire Altantuya case so they know everything, he said.

At the end of the press conference, Najib also questioned Anwar’s motive to raised the issue now, adding that if Anwar is genuinely concern about the murder case, he should have brought up the issue much earlier.

In Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he did not want to comment on the latest allegations.

“I do not want to comment on this. All this talk is subjudice. This case is already in court,” he said.

However, Abdullah said Najib had indicated to him that he would be seeking advice from the attorney-general on the matter.

Najib asks, “Why should I be investigated?” Susan Loone tells us why.

Meanwhile, as reported via Star sms alert and as blogged by Rocky Bru quoting the Star, Nuraina A Samad quoting Bernama, and Nur Aflah quoting Malaysiakini… How does a little aide get an audience with the second biggest shot in Malaysia to ask for help regarding the sodomy case, in his house nonetheless?

Najib, of course, already denied any links to Saiful.

If you were away on holiday and now are totally blur on what’s happening, Najib is all the while referring to Anwar’s statement saying Najib had SEX with Altantuya then had her MURDERED to shut her up.

As you can see above, Najib’s counter-allegation is that Anwar is just making this whole thing up to distract from Anwar’s own sodomy allegation controversy.

This is like the exact opposite of Theory #1 of the Seven Conspiracy Theories of the Anwar Sodomy Allegations, which says that the sodomy hoo-hah is itself concocted to divert the public away from the statutory declaration against his wife involving Altantuya!

But it fits in perfectly with Theory #2, which says that Anwar is behind the sodomy allegations against himself. Using the public sympathy momentum from the sodomy allegations, Anwar now swings it around, adds the weight of a police report alleging misconduct against him during the previous round of sodomy allegations, and launches it all right in the face of Najib and co!

Najib even wonders in front of the press and cameras ‘Why are all these attacks on me, wife, police happening at the same time’?

Conspiracies and counter-conspiracies and counter-counter conspiracies…

Anwar: Najib Had Sex With Altantuya, Had Her Murdered To Shut Her Up!

July 3, 08

Stop the presses! Insane shocker via Susan Loone’s coverage of the ongoing Anwar press conference! How true are the allegations? What will the consequences be if they are or are not??!!!

LATEST 4 JULY 2008: P. Balasubramaniam retracts SD, Najib did NOT have sex with Altantuya!

LATEST 3 JULY 2008: Najib Says Anwar’s Altantuya Statement is Just to Distract From Sodomy Case, dismissing it as almost a conspiracy…

After all, the timing of the allegations, as if in response to the allegations against Anwar himself, seem to verify Theory Number 2 of the Seven Conspiracy Theories of the Anwar Sodomy Allegations

Susan Loone – Najib introduced Altantuya to Baginda:

Wow! Explosive!

11.34 Bangkok time – Anwar Ibrahim tells the media not to “censor” the name of the high profile minister mentioned in the press conference. Anwar Ibrahim’s press conference today revealed that Najib Tun Razak had introduced “Amina” a.k.a Altantuya Shariibuu to Abdul Razak Baginda at a diamond exhibition in Singapore.

All these were revealed by a private investigator named Balasubramaniam Perumal who appeared in the Altantuya trials. He fears for his safety and has revealed only now the details because the Prosecution is wrapping up the case. Bala has also made a statutory declaration and he was represented by his lawyer Americk Singh. He says that he told the police all that he knew including everything Razak Baginda and Altantuya had told him about their relationships with Najib. These details were omitted from the statement he was asked to sign, after he was interrogated by Bukit Aman for seven consecutive days.

He was present at the press conference and was teary-eyed.

Najib asked Baginda to “take care” of Altantuya as he did not want her to harass him since he was now the deputy prime minister.

Najib had also told Baginda that he had sexual intercourse with Altantuya.

Wow! There is more…

Najib, Baginda and Altantuya had been in a dinner together in Paris.

Altantuya wanted money from Baginda as she said she was entitled to a 500,000USD commission out of the submarine deal in Paris.

When Razak Baginda was arrested, Balasubramaniam was told by him that he had sent an SMS messsage to Najib the evening before (Paragraph 51). Razak also informed Balasubramaniam that he had received an SMS from Najib and showed it to him; the message read “I am seeing IGP at 11 A.M. today …. matter will be solved … be cool”.
