Satirical Interview with Saiful Bukhari

March 22, 12

Old but still amusing, and very telling. Tipped by hutchrun.

Excerpts of article by Dreamweaver;

XYZ: You mean you could just drop in to see the Deputy PM at his house to ask for a scholarship and get career guidance advice? How many people can do that?

Saiful: Anybody. Pak Najib is a very nice man. He is always ready to help. Anybody can knock on his door. Just try it if you don’t believe me.

XYZ: In fact we’ve been trying to get an interview with Datuk Seri Najib for the past 6 months.

XYZ: It was also reported that you met a senior police officer, Senior Assistant Commissioner Rodwan at room 619 of the Concorde Hotel Shah Alam before you made a report. … To be precise, you met SAC Rodwan on 25th June, a day before the alleged sodomy which was on the 26th June.

Saiful: So what? I know I was going to be sodomized again. I was just getting ready.

XYZ: So why didn’t you set a trap for Anwar with video recording and police bursting into the room to catch him red handed? I’m surprised a police officer didn’t advice you to set a trap.

XYZ: OK, let’s talk about the day you made the police report on the 28th of June. Why did it take you 2 days after the alleged act to make a report? Haven’t you already decided to report Anwar after meeting SAC Rodwan?

Saiful: Well, I was embarrassed and humiliated about going public. I was also traumatized by it so I thought it over for a couple of days.

XYZ: But you were smiling and waving to the press after your police report.

Saiful: That was just for the TV cameras. I wanted to look handsome.

XYZ: You also went to work the next day and attended a PKR function at Anwar’s house in the evening where Anwar was also present.

Like I said, this is an old topic, so my previous posts on this matter may be dated.

Saiful Bukhari Sulks Over Anwar’s ‘VVIP’ Treatment

September 6, 09

From The Star 6 Sept 2009:

Saiful questions ‘VVIP’ treatment given to Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who accused his former employer Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of sodomy, has questioned the “VVIP treatment” given to the Opposition Leader.

“Perhaps this is the advantage of being an accused with a VVIP status. If he was an ordinary person, it (the application) would have never seen the light of the day,” he wrote in his blog on Friday.

Mohd Saiful was commenting on the leave application by Anwar to disqualify the entire prosecution team in his sodomy trial.

So says the lowly political aide who managed to secure a one-on-one private meeting with the then-Deputy PM himself, and bag a scholarship to boot:

Anda Diliwat?

Order now, and receive free round the clock police protection!

Well, unless of course now-PM Najib extends such privileges to everyone who claims liwat.

Anwar Ibrahim Arrested by Armed Balaclava Police

July 16, 08

On a tip from Anne and a link from wits0, via the BBC:

Malaysia’s Anwar Ibrahim arrested

Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has been arrested outside his home, his lawyer has said.

Mr Anwar was stopped by several police officers outside his home and taken to police headquarters.

His lawyer said no reason was given for the arrest, which came shortly before Mr Anwar was due to give a statement to police over sodomy allegations.

The former deputy prime minister denies the allegations, which he says are aimed at ending his political comeback.

Armed police

Mr Anwar has been has been in a tense stand-off with police since a former male aide accused him of sexual assault two weeks ago.

The 60 year-old opposition leader had always been due to report to police on Wednesday, to be interviewed over sodomy allegations.

But police decided not to wait. Mr Anwar was stopped outside the gates of his home on Wednesday morning, by armed police wearing balaclavas.

He was taken to police HQ in a large convoy.

His lawyer and his wife have been seen going into the building.

Mr Anwar’s arrest will be seen as provocative by Malaysian opposition groups.

When he was arrested on similar charges 10 years ago, his supporters staged large demonstrations.

A BBC correspondent in Kuala Lumpur, Robin Brant, says it is almost certain that the same thing will happen again now.

Armed and with balaclavas? Why, it sounds almost like they were…

…Refined gentlemen. Yup, that’s the accurate term for them!

Susan Loone reports: Anwar arrested at his home, hundreds gather to protest Anwar’s arrest (with lots of links to foreign news coverage):

Anwar Ibrahim was arrested on his way home after being questioned by the ACA on his report on the IGP and AG, and before he could even go for questioning at the Kuala Lumpur police station. Real foul play. A press statement from his office says:

As he entered the neighborhood of his home, a contingent of ten police cars, half unmarked and half patrol, forced the two cars in Anwar Ibrahim’s entourage to stop. There was a contingent of 20 balaklava-clad masked commandos (UTK) who accosted him, reminiscent of the forces sent to arrest Anwar Ibrahim at his home in September 1998.

An officer approached Anwar Ibrahim and demanded that he accompany the police in an unmarked vehicle to the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters. His lawyers were not permitted to travel with him to the police station.

Saiful Bukhari and P. Balasubramaniam – Spot the Differences

July 8, 08

When Saiful Bukhari made his allegations of sodomy, the mainstream media immediately published the identity of the accused – Anwar Ibrahim – while hiding the name of the accuser.

Earlier, a man claiming to be an aide of Anwar lodged a police report alleging sodomy by the PKR leader.

It is learnt that the man, in his 20s, lodged the report at a police beat base here at 5.45pm.

He is being treated at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

When P. Balasubramaniam made his allegations regarding Altantuya’s murder, the mainstream media at first quietly avoided mentioning the name of the accused – Najib Tun Razak – while publicly stating the name of the accuser.

Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda’s private investigator P. Balasubramaniam says the police omitted information about the relationship between a senior politician and Mongolian murder victim Altantuya Shaariibuu in his statement.

And for that matter, the accused were not named at first while the accuser was when Raja Petra Kamarudin made his allegations about Altantuya’s murder case either.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the three individuals named in the document filed at the High Court here on June 18 would also be called up.

Raja Petra had claimed that these individuals, one a prominent VIP, were present when Altantuya was killed on Oct 19, 2006.

When the controversy was in full swing, P. Balasubramaniam and his entire family suddenly disappeared from their home without warning. No one knows where to find them.

Whereas Saiful Bukhari and his family are all happy-happy, joy-joy.

And now, the police are looking high and low for P. Balasubramaniam. Interpol has even been roped in to help. (So much for ‘keep your noses out of our affairs you foreigners‘…)

Meanwhile, Saiful Bukhari enjoys round the clock police protection.

Mahathir Definitely Likes Najib More Than Anwar

July 8, 08

An about turn!

From The Star 8 July 2008:

Mahathir: There’s a concerted campaign against Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is convinced that there is a concerted campaign against Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and that “somebody is behind it” besides Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The former prime minister said he could not understand why the Deputy Prime Minister was coming under constant attack, adding that he believed the allegations against Najib were all hearsay.

“There is a concerted campaign against Najib. I don’t know why. Not just by Anwar but also by this other chap (Malaysia Today editor) Raja Petra (Kamaruddin) and also a number of others.

“Somebody is working behind this, maybe to undermine Najib’s possibility of challenging the Prime Minister,” he said after calling on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is here to attend the 6th Developing Eight Nations Summit.

Dr Mahathir said there was no proof to the allegations against Najib.

“You can’t just say that I heard somebody did this. This is not proof,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said he could not understand why his former deputy (Anwar) was “going after Najib” when it was not the latter who reported on Anwar’s behaviour.

“I think he has always been attacking Datuk Najib. Maybe he thinks that Najib is standing in his way of becoming the Deputy Prime Minister or even the Prime Minister,” he said, adding that Anwar could never join Umno again as the party would not accept him.

This, from the man who has himself previously attacked Najib and undermined Najib’s credentials for the premiership.

Which may mean his mentioning that ‘somebody is behind the attack on Najib‘ besides Anwar (and Raja Petra) could actually be a veiled reference to what Conspiracy Theory Number 6 says.

First Lawyer Americk Says P. Balasubramaniam Coerced Into Retracting Statutory Declaration; Now Bala and Family Missing

July 5, 08

LATEST: July 5, 8.05pm, Malaysiakini – Desperately seeking Bala and familyIn the latest twist to the scandal, the private investigator’s nephew R Kumaresan today lodged a police report over the disappearance of his uncle, aunt and their children.

See below’s NST report for more details.

From The Star 4 July 2008:

I believe he was coerced, says lawyer Americk

KUALA LUMPUR: Americk Singh Sidhu, the lawyer who had prepared the first statutory declaration for private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, is convinced his client was intimidated to retract his declaration alleging the Deputy Prime Minister had a sexual relationship with Altantuya Shaariibuu.

He believed the private eye had been coerced “by either threats or promises as I can think of no other reason.”

He stressed that his client had made the first sworn declaration voluntarily without duress.

He said he had first met Balasubramaniam two months ago at a restaurant where he was asked by the latter to help draft a formal document on the Altantuya case.

The sworn declaration was made over a period of one-and-half months in several meetings with Balasubramaniam lasting hours, he said.

“I had no reason to doubt that what Balasubramaniam told me was anything other the truth.

“I was under the impression that he was a trustworthy person and what he said was what he perceived with his own senses,” he said Friday evening at a press conference at the PKR headquarters.

Also present was Americk’s counsel Manjit Singh Dhillon and PKR vice-president R. Sivarasa.

On Thursday, Balasubramaniam said the police had omitted vital information about Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s relationship with the murdered Mongolian translator including the fact that she wanted a US$500,000 commission for helping secure a submarine deal in Paris.

The private eye hired by Abdul Razak Baginda also told the press conference on Thursday how after the murder, he had seen an SMS message to Razak purportedly from the deputy Prime Minister telling Razak “I am seeing the IGP at 11am today…matter will be solved…be cool.” Americk said he was shocked that within 24 hours his client had engaged the services of another lawyer and made another statutory declaration swearing that the first one was untrue and that he had been forced to sign it.

“As I am familiar with the character of Mr Bala, having spent hours recording his statement, I am very sceptical that he signed the second statutory declaration of his own free will.”

Americk said after the press conference at PKR’s headquarters on Thursday, he left with Balasubramaniam for his office and noticed a number of calls to the private investigator’s mobile went unanswered.

He said Balasubramaniam told him they were from the police, one of which was from ASP Tonny Lunggan, the investigating officer of the Altantuya murder case.

When Americk told him that it was all right to answer the call, he said Balasubramaniam then spoke to ASP Tonny and the call was very lively and jovial.

He said when Balasubramaniam left his office at 4.45pm, he thought the private eye was going to meet ASP Tonny after 6.30pm for some fish head curry.

“He was in very good spirits when he left. I was also of the impression that ASP Tonny wanted to congratulate him for what he had done,” he said.

On why he did not advise his client about his personal safety, Americk retorted: “He was going to see the police. How much safer can you be?”

When reporters called Americk Friday morning about the second statutory declaration, Americk tried to reach his client but the latter could not be contacted, even up till Friday evening when the press conference was held.

And PKR concurs with Americk’s disbelief.

From The Star:

PKR ‘absolutely surprised’ by Bala’s retraction

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR is “absolutely surprised” that Abdul Razak Baginda’s private investigator P. Balasubramaniam had retracted his first statutory declaration which they insist he made voluntarily.

PKR vice-president R. Sivarasa said the retraction was something serious and called for an independent investigation and a Royal Commission of Inquiry.

He believed Balasubramaniam had been under pressure by “interested parties” to withdraw the first statutory declaration that had been released on Thursday where he alleged that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had a sexual relationship with Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu, among other things.

Balasubramaniam had also said in his first statutory declaration, that before Razak was arrested for abetting in Altantuya’s murder, he had showed him an SMS purportedly sent by Najib telling him to be cool and that everything would be resolved because he (Najib) was meeting with the Inspector-General of Police at 11am that day.

“Other than his statutory declaration, Bala (Balasubramaniam) spoke openly about it during the press conference (at the PKR headquarters on Thursday). You can tell from his demeanour that he was speaking voluntarily.

“Then he changes overnight. This is very unusual. There are two statutory declarations and the judge in the Altantuya trial needs to decide which one is the truth,” said Sivarasa who is a lawyer by profession.

He said it was obvious that someone or “interested parties” got Balasubramaniam to change his statement, adding that there was a pattern of manipulation in this.

“This has a bearing in criminal justice system,” he said.

Barely 24 hours after his first statutory declaration, Balasubramaniam made a second statutory declaration on Friday stating that his first statutory declaration was made under duress and as such he wished to retract its entire contents.

Sivarasa said he “is absolutely certain” that Balasubramaniam had made the first statutory declaration voluntarily.

“His lawyer Americk (Sidhu) will support that,” he said, adding that it was not PKR that engaged the lawyer for Balasubramaniam.

Sivarasa said that when Balasubramaniam first approached him about the Altantuya murder case, he advised the private investigator to get a lawyer and write down the details independently.

“I only saw the statutory declaration after it was completed,” he said.

At Thursday’s press conference organised by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim where Balasubramaniam released his first statutory declaration, he was present with his lawyer Americk.

On Friday however, for his second statutory declaration, Balasubramaniam engaged a different lawyer, Arulampalam Mariam Pillai.

Haris Ibrahim’s blog has more text of PKR’s reaction and some ponderage. compares Balasubramaniam’s demeanor from lawyer Americk’s point of view.

Compare to Malaysiakini report, Was PI intimidated or induced?Private investigator P Balasubramaniam’s sudden retraction of his allegations against Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak may have been due to intimidation or inducement, claimed PKR vice-president R Sivarasa.

And now Balasubramaniam and his whole family are missing!

From New Straits Times 5 July 2008:

Balasubramaniam in hiding?

Balasubramaniam family missing

RAWANG: All is quiet at the home of private investigator P. Balasubramaniam.

Checks yesterday afternoon revealed there was no one at home, except for two ferocious dogs left inside cages in the porch of the single-storey extensively-renovated terrace house. The dogs were each left with a bowl of water in their cages.

Even the neighbours were in the dark on the whereabouts of Balasubramaniam and his family.

“Normally the family would be here but early yesterday the whole family left in one of their cars.

“No words were spoken when they left, it was as if they were in a hurry,” said a neighbour.

So plot twisty and conspiracy-ey!

Who is pressuring P. Balasubramaniam? Did they force him to make a false Statutory Declaration yesterday, or are they forcing him to retract the truth now?

Via two STAR sms alerts, 11am 4 July 2008:

Razak Baginda’s PI P.Balasubramaniam has retracted several paragraphs of his statutory declaration which he made yesterday

PI P.Balasubramaniam retracted that DPM introduced Razak Baginda to Altantuya Shariibuu and that DPM had a sexual relationship with her

From The Star Online:

PI retracts parts of declaration

KUALA LUMPUR: Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda’s private investigator P. Balasubramaniam on Friday retracted several paragraphs of his statutory declaration which he made yesterday.

Among the parts retracted are that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak introduced Razak to Mongolian murder victim Altantuya Shaariibuu and that Najib had a sexual relationship with her.

On Thursday, Balasubramaniam claimed in a statutory declaration that the police had omitted pertinent information allegedly linking Najib with the Altantuya murder case.

Balasubramaniam on Thursday declared he had informed police what Razak had purportedly told him prior to Altantuya’s murder.

He revealed yesterday the content of the statutory declaration at a press conference organised by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim together with PKR office bearers, MPs and lawyers at the party’s headquarters.

He said Razak had told him that he was introduced to Altantuya by Najib at a diamond exhibition in Singapore and that Najib had told him that he (Najib) and Altantuya had had a sexual relationship and that “she was susceptible to anal intercourse”.

Balasubramaniam said Razak had also told him that Najib had asked him (Razak) “to look after” Altantuya, who was also known as “Aminah”, because he did not want her to harass him now that he was the Deputy Prime Minister.

He claimed Razak had told him that Altantuya had wanted money as she felt entitled to a US$500,000 (RM1.65mil) commission from a submarine deal that she had assisted the Malaysian Government secure in Paris; and that Najib, Razak and Altantuya all had dinner together in Paris.

‘Susceptible to anal intercourse’?!!! That’s exactly the kind of offense being leveled at Anwar! Really does sound like it was made up by someone as part of some conspiracy

Important part of the statutory declaration can be read at I Am Malaysian – Bala: I lied.. (And yes, I am being a one-stop link-shop.)

Full second statutory declaration is at Rocky’s Bru – I did 1st July SD under duress, Bala swear.

And see also Disquiet – Why Balasubramaniam’s First Declaration Is Still Significant for some insight as to why the cops will still investigate the earlier SD (see top of this post you are reading for details).
