Is Palin Disliked or Popular Among Conservatives?

UPDATE 28 JULY 2010 Insanely popular! She leads the pack by far for Republican nominee 2012:

Palin popular among Conservatives

UPDATE 18 FEB 2010: Wildly popular at Daytona 500!

UPDATE 20 NOV 09: She’s still wildly popular! At her book signing in liberal Detroit, 1500 waited through the freezing cold night to meet her… With perhaps 10,000 in Michigan! 4000 waited in rain at Fort Bragg!

300,000 books sold on first day!

And her favorables back up to 47-42!

Which makes her more popular now than the negative ratings President Obama!

No wonder her appearance on Oprah was the highest rated Oprah show in 2 years, even higher than Obama at his peak popularity!

She raised $45,000 for the Red Cross in one day!

5000 greet her at the University of Ozarks!

UPDATE 24 OCT 09: She’s still wildly popular!

After endorsing Doug Hoffman on her Facebook, he received $116,000 in a single day!

———————————

Various commentors/trolls on my blog have been saying that Sarah Palin was a drag on McCain’s campaign, being much disliked and viewed as ignorant and shallow by Conservative voters.

Yet it seems that the only ones who are saying such things are liberals who support Obama. Exactly what would they know about whether their ideological polar opposites like Palin or not?

Methinks that the ones who really dislike Palin are the same liberals who secretly fretted that this out-of-nowhere populist bombshell might actually outshine and outperform their precious empty-suit Obamessiah!

Whereas for Conservatives who were apathetic about John McCain’s weak-spined centrism and reluctance to go all out against Obama, Palin was a breath of right-wing, fundamentalist Christian, true-blooded Neocon air!

To wit, What liberals dislike = What Conservatives like. Therefore, the very fact that liberal trolls are going around telling everyone how the Right rejected Palin is excellent circumstantial evidence that the exact opposite is true.

Let the record show:

20) Sarah Palin: voted Conservative of the Year by HUMAN EVENTS

With article by Ann coulter here:

Who cares if Palin was qualified to be President? She was running with John McCain! There was no chance that ticket was going to place her anywhere near the presidency. In fact, I can’t think of a better place to put someone you wanted to keep away from the White House than on a ticket with McCain.

Palin was a kick in the pants, she energized conservatives, and she made liberal heads explode. Other than his brave military service, introducing Sarah Palin to Americans is the greatest thing John McCain ever did for his country.

1) 10,000 for Palin in St. Louis:

Palin popular among Conservatives

At least 10,600 tickets were given away to supporters of Governor Sarah Palin this week for the rally in St. Louis.

2) 10,000 for Palin at Chaifetz Arena:

Palin popular among Conservatives

There were 10,000 people there and they were FIRED UP!

See also these telling photos from the Arena:

The media looked like they wanted to cry. Stunned silence. Disappointed.

The Obama Campaign headquarters near campus was dead.
There was no celebrating going on there. Not tonight.

Lololol! Of course the media weren’t very happy that the public loves Palin. They’re the Obama worshiping, Palin bashing, totally biased lie-beral media after all!

3) 60,000 for Palin at The Villages, Florida (huge percentage out of a community of 70,000):

The Villages, a vast, upscale planned community north of Orlando, has about 70,000 mostly adult residents — many of them military retirees — who vote reliably Republican in statewide races. Tens of thousands inched along roads into the picturesque town square of the complex, where they stood in sweltering heat for about four hours as local GOP officials and a country band revved up the crowd.

“Sa-Rah! Sa-Rah!” they chanted at every mention of her name, applauding loudly and waiving tiny American flags that were distributed — along with free water bottles — by local volunteers. The fire chief estimated the crowd at 60,000. – The News-Press

4) 13,000 for Palin at Fort Wayne Coliseum:

Governor Sarah Palin spoke in Fort Wayne Saturday night, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Palin spoke to a large crowd in the tens of thousands.

The Fort Wayne event started with performances by Hank Williams, Junior… while the crowd of roughly 13,000 people waited for the Alaskan governor to arrive. Just after 7:45 Saturday night, the guest of honor took the stage. – WANE TV

5) 4,000 tickets sold out, so Palin Springfield apperance moved to larger area:

A rally with Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is being moved to a larger site in Springfield.

Friday morning’s event was initially scheduled for an arena at Missouri State University. But the party says all 4,000 tickets were snapped up within 90 minutes Wednesday morning at Republican headquarters in Greene and Christian counties. Hundreds more Palin fans were left empty-handed.

Palin’s “Road to Victory” rally will now take place instead in the parking lot of Bass Pro Shops in Springfield. The outdoor outfitter is one of Missouri’s biggest attractions. – Columbia Missourian

6) Thousands for Palin at Elon:

Thousands packed the sun-blazed field in support of Palin, including five students who painted her name on their bare chests, along with a sixth who painted an exclamation point.

The crowd clearly felt Palin had been underestimated by both Republican leadership and the national media. – Charlotte Observer

7) Thousands for Palin in Jacksonville:

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin told a Jacksonville crowd of thousands that her running mate would bring economic relief to middle-class Americans while Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama would raise taxes. – Jacksonville Business Journal

8.) 10,000 for McCain-Palin at Sterling Heights:

McCain drew loud applause, first at a morning appearance in the downtown of a quaint, Republican-leaning Wisconsin village and then at a more boisterous amphitheater rally here in Michigan’s working-class Macomb County.

Yet it was Palin who many, especially women, in both crowds were thrilled to see up close just days after she exploded onto the national political scene.

The two events Friday both drew about 10,000 people, comparable numbers to what the newly formed ticket saw last weekend. – Yahoo News

9) 10,000 sign thank you petition to Palin in two days:

10) McCain-Palin outdraw Obama in Green Bay:

“You all know that you hold this election in your hands,” Sen. Russ Feingold, a Democrat who said he worked on ethics legislation with Obama, told a crowd of about 6,000 cheering Obama fans in the arena next to Lambeau Field.

Just a week ago, John McCain and his vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin — who can bring out crowds the way Obama can — appeared in this same stadium, Resch Center, to a crowd of 10,000 fans. There were an uncharacteristic amount of empty orange seats for Obama’s rally. – Chicago Sun-Times

11) 20,000 for Palin in Missouri:

12) Thousands appear to see Palin stump for Chambliss:

Chambliss brought in Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain’s vice presidential pick, as his closer. She headlined four rallies for Chambliss across the state Monday that drew thousands of party faithful. – Yahoo News

The ball team’s president said the stadium holds about 15,000 for such concert-style events. Republican consultant John Hancock, who served as master of ceremonies for the event, estimated there were about 20,000 people. – KMOV

13) Conservative voters donated $7 million to McCain’s campaign immediately after Palin was picked as John McCain’s running mate.

14) Supported by extremely popular, influential Conservative bloggers with tens of thousands of readers daily: Including Michelle Malkin, Moonbattery, Gateway Pundit, Little Green Footballs and The Jawa Report. And of course, the much read Ann Coulter. Read this post for an example of where their loyalties truly lie.

Malkin alone gets more than 500,000 visitors a day:

Palin popular among Conservatives

That’s a whole lot of agreeing voices saying WE SUPPORT PALIN!

15) Voted Number 1 Favourite Person on the Right by well known Right-Of-Center Bloggers, ahead of even Coulter, Malkin and Limbaugh (via Malkin).

16) Supported by thousands of little grassroots bloggers like me!

————————————

And especially for the trolls, compare the excitement generated by the former Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin, to the apathy commanded by the then Democrat Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Biden…

17) Thousands for Palin in Cape Girardeau, 500 for Biden in Arnold:

The Alaska governor spoke to several thousand people at the Show Me Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. The arena holds a little more than 7,000 people and was full. In fact, hundreds more watched on closed circuit TV in an adjoining recreation center. One organizer said 13,000 tickets were given away. -The News Leader

Biden spoke to more than 500 people at Fox High School in Arnold, a suburb of St. Louis, and part of Jefferson County, where Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton got significantly more support in the primary than Obama. -KMOV

18.) 18,000 for Palin, 400 for Biden in Missouri:

Palin popular among Conservatives

We have a crowd estimate! The Highway Patrol is saying 17,000 to 18,000 — more than the Kerry-Edwards appearance here four years ago and probably second only to Mel Carnahan’s funeral in 2000. – Primebuzz

Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden urged supporters in Lee’s Summit Monday to work hard in the closing hours to elect Barack Obama to the White House. “Thirty-seven hours!” he told some 400 supporters in the gym at Longview Community College. – Prime Buzz

19) Half of surveyed recognize Palin, hardly anyone recognizes Biden, and only 3/4 even know he’s the VP:

People were shown some pictures of prominent Americans, like John McCain and Barack Obama. Everyone recognized Obama and McCain. And maybe half the people knew who Sarah Palin was. But Joe Biden? Most didn’t recognize the Democratic vice presidential nominee.

“Maybe 75 percent of people can name the vice president. … The public’s knowledge of politics is shockingly low,” economist Bryan Caplan said. – 20/20

So why don’t I hear anyone talking about how big a drag Biden was on Obama’s ticket? Without Palin, McCain’s ship would have totally sunk as thousands of uninspired voters stayed home rather than vote for him. With Hillary instead of Biden, Obama might have had a landslide to rival Reagan’s!

And isn’t it kind of telling that Obama’s supporters keep comparing Obama to Palin instead of Obama to McCain or Biden to Palin? ;P

    hey nice blog 🙂
I have to say you are right, palin was not necessarily a drag.. there was also mccain himself, BUSH, and the Obama factor, the fact that he’s juuust too good and that I don’t see any of the other rep candidates winning either. obama might succeed or mess up but the point is he had way more charisma than the reps and that’s why he won -well that and his better policies http://www.spinwhip.com/obama 🙂

  2. Ig-no-ram-US Says:

Wait till the chickens come home to roost on his “better policies”.

  3. In brief Says:

    “better policies” ????

Dr. Karanja expressed his frustration at the result of the US election: “They have no business electing a person who is going to destroy our countries. And that is what they have done. This is something that a lot of people don’t realise, that what these Americans do affects innocent people thousands and thousands of miles away.”

“The truth is that they have put a bad man in the most powerful office in the whole world. And are putting people outside your borders in danger.”

Better policies like the tax cut to 95% of all Americans, which has now been cancelled, you mean?

  5. matkilat Says:

Charles Johnson, probably the smartest Conservative blogger (and one of the smartest bloggers per se around) doesn’t support Palin.

Most of the posts linked support Palin OVER the Obama-Biden ticket, NOT AS YOU ARE IMPLYING making her their preferred choice as VP if they could pick.

Just the same way as picking roast chicken over fried chicken when you have to make a choice of either one doesn’t make roast chicken your bestest most favorite food in the whole wide world.

Face it, most of the conservative bloggers and intellectuals don’t fancy withdrawing deeper into the sphere of conservatism (barring the clueless Ann Coulter, who sometimes I think is secretly a Democrat out to paint Republicans as mindless racist drones).

But this is exactly what a future with Palin as a frontrunner would entail.

If the Republicans want a smart female candidate with great credentials and experience – they should go for Condi Rice. In 4 years, when Obama looks just as bad or maybe even worse than Bush, she would be in prime position to run for President.

Even her biggest critics can’t deny that she’s one of the smartest people in politics today – while she has wide-ranging experience on running an Administration and handling foreign policy.

    ??????

Where did I imply that non-Conservatives prefer Palin as Obama’s VP choice over Biden? That’s sheer insanity!

The entirety of my post is aimed towards proving that Conservatives prefer Palin as McCain’s VP – that is, they prefer McCain-Palin to Obama-Biden.

Face it, most of the conservative bloggers and intellectuals don’t fancy withdrawing deeper into the sphere of conservatism (barring the clueless Ann Coulter, who sometimes I think is secretly a Democrat out to paint Republicans as mindless racist drones).

Citations please! Cos all I got is echo-chamber populist bloggers like Malkin, Gateway, LGF, Jawa and Moonbattery. Surely their millions of hits do not reflect the thought-patterns of Conservatives in general. That must be why only 46% of America voted for McCain-Palin.

But I do agree on Condi as a potential pick.

  7. MatKilat Says:

“Where did I imply that non-Conservatives prefer Palin as Obama’s VP choice over Biden? That’s sheer insanity!”

    :rolls eyes:

I hope that was intentional, because if not you must be really thick.

Let me simplify it a bit – it comes down to McCain-Palin vs Obama-Biden. No other choices.

Obama-Biden and their supporters in the media were busy attacking Palin as a redneck hick soccermom who shouldn’t be let anywhere near the oval office.

Because the conservative bloggers preferred the McCain ticket to the Obama one OF COURSE they were going to defend Sarah Palin from the attacks. However, IT DOES NOT MEAN that they thought she was a great choice for the job – just that the other guys were worse than her (and she was pretty bad you do have to admit).

Give you an example – many conservative bloggers weren’t very happy when McCain won the ticket, some were shilling for Giulliani, others Romney, some even Ron Paul. But for the most part, they got behind the man for the elections, as they thought the alternative was worse.

Now that he’s lost, however, it doesn’t mean they would be happy to keep supporting Presidential tickets with his name on it.

    Ditto Palin. Capice?

  8. Scott Thong Says:

It was intentional, but perhaps I misunderstood your earlier comment…

You were saying that the posts I linked show how Conservatives prefer McCain-Palin over Obama-Biden, but do not show that they prefer Palin as VP candidate over others like Lieberman or Romney, correct?

I thought that you were focusing on my Palin turnout compared to Biden turnout examples, where my point was to show that whatever Palin’s drag on McCain, it wasn’t like Biden was much of a boost for Obama.

It’s clearer to me now with your second comment.

You’re right in that the examples I give likely show the simple fact that many Conservatives supported Palin simply because they oppose Obama.

And yes, many would have been happier if Romney had been picked instead (with hindsight on the financial joker card).

But to all this I say, let’s see the situation four years down the road. Bobby Jindal, Condoleeza Rice, Sarah Palin with four years more of governorship and homework on national/international issues, or even David Petraeus could rally the base… But only if they run as true Reagan Conservatives instead of the Centrist that McCain dawdled along as.

(Heck, I still don’t see how Palin – who was Mayor of Wasilla for 6 years and Governor of Alaska for 2 years – could be any less capable than Obama, whose vaunted community organizing didn’t even accomplish positive results.-organizing-what-did-he-actually-accomplish-photos-essay/” rel=”nofollow”>See pictures.

If she had prepped to run for the Presidency like Obama instead of been busy running Alaska, I betcha she’d be just as ‘insightful’ on foreign policy as Mr. ‘Call on UN to condemn Russia though Russia has veto power there’ and ‘Unconditional talks with Iran oops now I’ve changed my stance’.)

  9. Duncan Idaho Says:

Don’t fall into the trend of trying to be a “Good Conservative” in liberal eyes. When the bubble has burst blowing more hot air into it is a romantic gesture of impotence.

“Charles Johnson, probably the smartest Conservative blogger (and one of the smartest bloggers per se around)”

    LOL!

    Seriously? Where have you been?

First of all, CJ is NOT a conservative. If you haven’t noticed he’s been on this RAAAAAACIST-witch-hunt, right there rank and file with the likes of Rachel Maddow and Keith Overbite.

CJ bans anyone who comments with disagreement with him from his blog, if you haven’t noticed.

Yes, I used to be an LGF follower, but Charles has slowly and surely become a good little hitlerite in the way he runs LGF.

Have you ever witnessed the minions he sends out on the trolling jihad to real conservative blogs?

Ace of Spades HQ, Moonbattery, Verum Serum, and Gateway Pundit (I believe, just started following him) are all much better representations to cite in the conservative vein. Funny that most (all?) of them have given up on Charles.

It baffles me that so many conservatives (and mock conservatives such as CJ) drink the liberal kool-aid on the Palin issue. The 100+ grand speaks for itself. As far as I’m aware that’s something to the effect of 30% of the Hoffman’s total campaign finances.

The liberals howl louder at Palin than the do at Cheney, that should tell you something right there. Why would you let them convince you otherwise?

“Heck, I still don’t see how Palin – who was Mayor of Wasilla for 6 years and Governor of Alaska for 2 years – could be any less capable than Obama”

Most definitely. She has 8 years of executive experience. And she’s actually in touch with what it’s like to be a CITIZEN vs. a BUREAUCRAT, which is much more than can be said about most of the republicans and nearly all of the democrats.

No offense to Matkilat, but as I stated, I strongly disagree with you about CJ and you really ought to take the sparkle out of your eyes and reevaluate him. He used to be conservative, but he took the low (read: moonbat) road some time ago and there is plenty of evidence to be seen, especially the ban-hammer-spam of legitimate comment-ers and fellow bloggers.

Thanks again Scott for the honest and insightful blogsmanship.

Also, Scott, I commented on Moonbattery’s post regarding Lord Monckton’s statements today. I’m curious to see what you thought about it. I’d cross-post my comment but it’d likely be more appropriate to conduct discussion over there. Hope to hear your thoughts on the issue, the other MB readers don’t really engage in conversation in the comments.

    Cheers!

  11. Scott Thong Says:

It’s a similar phenomenon with both liberals and radical Islam… They demand that you be more centre-line, more accommodating, more respectful – and give you nothing for it in return. If anything, they learn that they can demand more and more!

It’s actually a very simple exercise in logical thinking: Liberals hate conservatives and would like nothing better than for us to disappear into irrelevance. Therefore, when liberals advise us – out of the ‘goodness of their hearts – that being more moderate will attract more voters to our cause, should we really take their word at face value?

It’s that simple! How can anyone NOT see right through their ruse?

On what Lord Monckton warns, again it’s a double standard – instead of free speech being shut down to appease Muslims (something that has never, and will never be done for any other religions, especially liberalism’s favourite kick toy Christianity), it’s Western economies being shut down with no penalty for the world’s second largest economy.

The last 45 of my 66 years I’ve spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here’s the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It’s not about persona, style, rhetoric, it’s about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I’m about to mention here.

1- Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor’s office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican’s “Corrupt Bastards Club” (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits.

The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing “la la la la” (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar. But while you’re thinking, I’ll continue.

    He’ll explain why:

    * It is envy that makes a Communist, Nazi, or Moslem Terrorist. It is the fear of being envied that makes a liberal.
    * Liberalism is not a political philosophy or coherent set of beliefs. It is a psychological strategy to avoid being envied.
    * All forms of leftism and liberalism are based on an atavistic belief in Black Magic. All are based on the primitive fear of the envious Evil Eye.
    * Islam, including the biography of Mohammed and the text of the Koran, was invented in the centuries after the Arab Conquest as a religious rationale for Arab imperialism.
