Not Even Cops Are Safe in JB

September 25, 09

From The Star 25 Sep 2009:

Nine held over murder of suspended cop

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested nine men in connection with the abduction and murder of suspended police constable Selvaganesan Chandran.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Shariff said police were still trying to ascertain the men’s involvement in the case.

“So far, I can only confirm that Selvaganesan was abducted by a group of men,” he said, adding that police were confident of solving the case soon.

The constable is from Kuala Kangsar, Perak and joined the police force in 2003.

The Star had earlier reported that the decomposed body of Selvaganesan, with his throat slit, was discovered in an oil palm plantation on the first day of Hari Raya.

It was earlier reported that Selvaganesan was abducted when two vehicles blocked his car at the Sri Stulang apartments at 4am on Sept 17.

At least five men, some armed with iron rods and parang, emerged from the vehicles and smashed the windscreen of the policeman’s car before pulling him out of the vehicle and hitting him repeatedly.

Selvaganesan was then bundled into one of the vehicles before the men drove off, leaving the woman in her 20s, behind.

Nearby residents alerted the police, thinking it was a gang fight.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman, who works as a clerk in Singapore, trembling with fear.

Those with information can call the police hotline at 07-2212999.

More Fake Cops in JB, This Time Caught

September 18, 09

This is not the first time JB criminals have posed as cops.

From The Star 18 Sep 2009:

Seven more bogus cops held
By FARIK ZOLKEPLI

JOHOR BARU: Seven gang robbers, who posed as policemen and went on a four-day robbing spree have been caught in a police operation.

The police are also now probing where the suspects obtained uniforms which looked authentic to the untrained eye.

A special task force comprising the Johor Baru (North and South) and Seri Alam police was formed after the thugs, dressed in police uniforms and vests, went on a 21-robbery spree from Sept 13 to 16.

Acting on a tip-off, the task force raided a house in Kampung Melayu Pandan and arrested four gang members on Wednesday afternoon.

Follow-up operations three hours later led police to three other suspects at a flat in Taman Bukit Mutiara.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said police seized a senior policeman’s uniform, a black police jacket and several police vests along with several parang, knives, axes, mobile phones and four stolen cars.

“The suspects aged between 18 and 28 were responsible for robberies involving about RM500,000 in four days.

“They often target victims in Johor Baru and Seri Alam between 5.30am and 10am,” he told a press conference yesterday.

He also said that only a handful of outlets were permitted to supply police uniforms.

“We will not hesitate to take action if one of the suppliers was involved,” he said, adding that police are still looking for three more gang members.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar assured the public that those involved in the robberies were not policemen.

“The public is advised to insist on seeing the authority cards of people claiming to be policemen,” he said.

On another matter, DCP Mohd Mokhtar announced that 703 foreign women who worked as prostitutes had been arrested so far.

“We have raided nine entertainment outlets numerous times this year,” he said, adding that the crime rate had been reduced by 8.76% between January and September compared to the same period last year.

Noordin Mat Top is a Johorean

September 18, 09

Yes, the now dead terrorist he war born in Kluang.

Maybe that’s why another notorious terrorist hid in Johor.

From The Star 18 Sep 2009:

Wife wishes to bury Noordin in Johor Baru
By FARIK ZOLKEPLI

JOHOR BARU: Slain terrorist Noordin Md Top’s wife was calm when she heard that he had been killed by Indonesian police.

Her father, Rusdi Hamid, 67, said: “We were always prepared for such an outcome especially after the last time when he was suspected to have been killed.

“We will live our lives normally as it has been a long time since he has lived with us.”

He said yesterday that it was his daughter’s wish for her husband’s body to be returned home to be buried.

When met at his home in Kampung Sg Tiram here yesterday, Rusdi, a trader, said his daughter and Noordin’s three children, a boy, aged 10, and daughters aged nine and eight, had lost contact with Noordin for about eight years.

“Even after eight years, my daughter still wished for him to be buried here now that it is confirmed that he was killed.

“My daughter and grandchildren had to live without him but thankfully they are used to the situation,” he said.

Rusdi hoped that the media and other parties would leave his family alone now that it has been confirmed that Noordin was killed.

“As I said before, Noordin left his wife and three children suddenly eight years ago.

“We will carry on without him,” he said.

Rusdi added that he had to support his daughter and grandchildren who are living with him.

Pundit Kitchen ‘Loves’ Joe Biden – What the Lols Tell Us About Liberals and Their Obama

September 16, 09

Pundit Kitchen is an ICanHasCheezburger-style collection of political lols and motivational posters. Browse around for a while, however, and you’ll start to notice that it has a decidedly liberal bent – most likely because more of its users and readers (and therefore voters for the lols) lean left.

That would explain why you have so many lols about how great Obama is.

And lols laughing at how dumb Palin is supposed to be.

And lols criticizing conservatives and their causes in general, such as the Tea Parties, Fox News and traditional marriage.

And of course, plenty of Bush bashing lols, which while not exclusively the domain of hardcore libs, remains a core foundation of that establishment.

But wait… If that’s the case, then why are there so many overwhelmingly negative lols mocking Joe Biden? And to a lesser extent, the Clintons? Aren’t they also Liberal Democrats? Why are they then being ridiculed by the same lolsters who idolize Liberal Democrat Obama so?

Zoom out a little, and you may reach the same conclusion as I did: That the liberal Pundit Kitcheners are deliberately drawing attention away from their Obamessiah’s flaws and failings.

Case in point: Amidst the countless Obama lols, you’ll be hard pressed to find any that portray him in a negative light. The closest you’ll get is lols sympathizing with how hard it must to be a President surrounded by buffoons and corrupt tax cheats (whose proximity to the White House the President had absolutely no control over).

This, despite the recent nonstop barrage of Obama’s missteps, such as eating ice-cream while the Iranian protestors die, Gates-gate, the imploding economy, crediting Islam for inventing stuff actually invented by the Chinese, defending government-run healthcare by pointing out how the (government-run) Post Office is floundering, etc.

Meanwhile, you can easily find lols aplenty laughing at how inept and senile good ‘ol Biden is… Despite the fact that he hasn’t made the news in months.

Thus, I am drawn to the conclusion that the Pundit Kitchen liberals are – just like their counterparts elsewhere online, in the media and in the physical world – desperately trying to protect their precious Dear Leader, even as his approval rating death spirals into the double digit negatives and his actions drive more people towards conservatism.

After all, if people stopped laughing at Biden and shuddering at Hillary for long enough, they might – horror! – actually notice that Obama’s shine had long ago worn off, exposing the incapable noob beneath.

(Heck, libs cherish their illusion of the great uniter so much, that they’re probably trying to fool themselves too!)

And thus, we have this:

Don’t worry, guys… There’s a far bigger joke in the driver’s seat, if only you dare to look!

UPDATE: Okay, so maybe I’m wrong or the tide has finally caught up. More and more posters mocking Congress, suporting troops etc. Maybe it’s because of the massive shift towards Conservatism since Obama began showing what he’s really made of?

JB: More CCTVs and Cops

September 11, 09

The extra police personnel should work, but I sincerely doubt the efficacy of CCTVs – most of the shocking horror-story crimes happen to ordinary civilians in housing areas, not fancy places like Iskandar… Plus, by the time the reviewing of the footage gets started, the perpetrators may be long gone out of state or even across the sea to Indonesia.

From The Star 9 Sept 2009:

More CCTV cameras to prevent crime in Johor Baru

THE number of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be increased from 40 to 2,000 in an effort to boost security in the state capital, especially at Iskandar Malaysia.

Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the CCTV cameras would be placed at various crime hot spots.

“Currently, the state has only 40 CCTV cameras and the added cameras will help in crime prevention,” he said.

Abdul Ghani said in addition to the surveillance cameras, Johor would also increase the number of police personnel, adding that 948 officers would join the force.

“We are also looking at building community policing posts at various residential areas statewide.

“At least 100 posts will be erected at housing areas to reduce the crime rate,” he added.

Abdul Ghani was replying to Datuk Baderi Dasuki (BN – Panti) who said the crime rate, especially snatch theft incidents, was rampant.

JB: Parang Wielding Intruder Robs 7 Women in Hostel But Fails to Rape Them

September 11, 09

From The Star 11 Sept 2009:

Burglar enters Myanmar women’s dormitory but fails to rape them
By LOH FOON FONG

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven Myanmar women factory workers were spared the ordeal of rape when a parang-wielding intruder broke into their hostel but could not get an erection.

The man entered the hostel at 2am when the women were fast asleep.

He woke them up before robbing them of their mobile phones and jewellery.

The women, who were all in their 20s, were later ordered to strip but his attempt to rape them was unsuccessful and he left soon after.

Terrified by the incident, the workers refused to continue living in the hostel in Taman Putri Wangsa in Johor Baru.

Myanmar embassy counsellor Ei Ei Tin said the embassy would provide temporary shelter for the women but it wanted the police to arrest the culprit.

“He has not been caught. He had a parang and ordered all of the women to surrender their money and to strip,” she told The Star.

The counsellor said the embassy was writing a letter to the Human Resources Ministry to look into the plight of Myanmar workers in Malaysia.

“We also want the workers to have a safe place and not have 30 people live in one dormitory,” she said.

The seven women who reported the case to the embassy had to live with more than 20 others in another dormitory and this caused a lot of discomfort and could pose a health risk, she said.

Tin urged the agents for foreign workers from Myanmar and their Malaysian counterparts to adhere to the laws in their treatment of workers.

There are 13,0731 registered Myanmar workers in the services, manufacturing and plantation sectors in the country.

Why Do Malaysian Cops Move in On Only Certain Protests?

September 7, 09

From The Star 7 Sept 2009:

Koh: Cops need to be fair and consistent

PETALING JAYA: Police should have a standard procedure to deal with public protests to show it is consistent and fair in its actions, said minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

He proposed that police do not immediately arrest those protesting peacefully, but to record the demonstrations instead, to identify the perpetrators to take action later.

“If the police act harshly even before there are signs of aggression, not only would this bring displeasure to the group demonstrating but also to the public who will view this as being unfair,” said the Gerakan president after opening the Selangor Gerakan AGM yesterday.

Speaking to reporters on the recent cow head protest in Shah Alam, Dr Koh said the incident had raised many doubts and unhappiness.

In his speech earlier, he said the police must be sensitive to public perception and not just carry out their duty as the image of the police is a reflection of the Government.

Dr Koh pointed out that people have started questioning why the cow head protesters were not arrested on the spot during the demonstration but 16 people were arrested at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday for carrying out a candlelight vigil.

“People who carry out candlelight vigils and people who are sitting in mamak shops wearing black clothes are arrested. I think that is not correct,” he said drawing laughter from the delegates.

Dr Koh asks: Why are peaceful protestors arrested, while a mob vehemently insulting the Hindu religion (and collaterally insulting Guan Yin followers) is let off?

Answer: Look at the subtext in the poster below, which I’ll keep bringing up:

Why weren’t they arrested either, when the Bersih protests were met with chemical-water cannon, tear gas and shield bashes?

Saiful Bukhari Sulks Over Anwar’s ‘VVIP’ Treatment

September 6, 09

From The Star 6 Sept 2009:

Saiful questions ‘VVIP’ treatment given to Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who accused his former employer Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of sodomy, has questioned the “VVIP treatment” given to the Opposition Leader.

“Perhaps this is the advantage of being an accused with a VVIP status. If he was an ordinary person, it (the application) would have never seen the light of the day,” he wrote in his blog http://mohdsaifulbukhari.blogspot.com on Friday.

Mohd Saiful was commenting on the leave application by Anwar to disqualify the entire prosecution team in his sodomy trial.

So says the lowly political aide who managed to secure a one-on-one private meeting with the then-Deputy PM himself, and bag a scholarship to boot:

Anda Diliwat?

Order now, and receive free round the clock police protection!

Well, unless of course now-PM Najib extends such privileges to everyone who claims liwat.

Why Does Arrogant 21st-Century Man Think UFOs are Technological?

September 5, 09

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”Arthur C. Clarke

Oh, how full of hubris and self-praising is modern man! How arrogantly yet foolishly does he assume that he knows everything there is to know about everything!

Is this not the same mistake the ancients throughout the ages made? Those ignorant, uncultured barbarians who – knowing nothing of the wonders of science, yet thinking they already knew all in the universe – attributed all unusual phenomena to magic or the works of the gods?

Yet modern man is different – because this time, he really does know all in the universe!

For example, he knows that when the Bible tells of how Elijah was taken up into heaven by a chariot and horses of fire, the ancients who witnessed the scene did not comprehend the possibility of alien abduction by a UFO. But today, we know better!

Or… do we?

Who are we to assume that now, after a mere century or two of the scientific method, we have understood all there is to understand about anything?

Who are we to assume that when something mysterious and amazing happens, there must be a rational, scientific explanation for it?

Is everything science? Is everything technology?

You say yes. But did not ancient man say: Everything is magic? Everything is miracle?

More to the point, who are we to say – out of our limited, mortal minds with mere decades of experience – that UFOs must be of a technological nature?

Did not the ancients make similar mis-assumptions in the past – that everything they could not explain, from lightning to magnetism, was caused by magic?

Would not an ancient stare in awe at an M1-Abrams tank assailing the enemy, and run back to his jungle tribe telling of the great ‘dragon’ spitting ‘fire’ – the only thing he comprehends from his backwater culture that even remotely resembles what he just witnessed?

So who is modern, 21st-century man to assume he is correct in believing that UFOs are made of metals and energy sources and alien intelligence? Who is he to assume that he can one day discover and duplicate this ‘advanced science’ – since science the only thing his fragile and limited mind can interpret that even remotely resembles what he is accustomed to in his own ‘enlightened’ culture?

Is it not likely that, just as ancient man was wrong to assume everything unknown and wonderful was magic, it is wrong for modern man to assume that everything unexplained and puzzling is science?

It has been said before that if God were to appear in all His glory and power amidst flame and lightning, telling the unbelieving world “I AM HERE AND I AM REAL!” while simultaneously healing every known disease in every person… The skeptics would still dismiss it as a mass hallucination, intense psychosomatic influence, some massive government conspiracy – or yes, aliens – anything but the possibility that the supernatural does exist.

Thus, if modern man can be wrong to think that science is all there is to UFOs… Can he not be wrong to think that science is all there is to God as well, i.e. that God does not exist simply because science cannot prove Him?

Ponder that.
