Hisham:Create racial tension and you’ll pay dearly
By LOURDES CHARLES, FLORENCE SAMY and WANI MUTHIAHSHAH ALAM: The Home Ministry will take stern action against any group that tries to create racial tension, says minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
He said the security of the people and peace far outweighed any other issues in the country.
”Friday’s incident, if left unchecked, will lead to more conflicts and tense situations,” he warned.
“This is a very sensitive matter,” said Hishammuddin. “I am issuing a stern warning to any party or group not to resort or act beyond the confines of law that can be detrimental to the security and peace of the country.”
The Government, he added, would not bow to any pressure in matters involving race and religion.
A group of more than 200 people had marched to the Selangor state secretariat after Friday prayers to protest the relocation of a Hindu temple in Section 23, here.
The group had left a cow’s head at the entrance of the building.
Hishammuddin also suggested that Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and his exco members should meet the disgruntled group to sort out the matter amicably instead of leaving it to the local authorities.
He said the decision to relocate the temple was made by the excos and they should be held responsible for the move.
He also warned those instigating the Hindus through articles posted on the internet that the Police and the Malaysian Commission and Multimedia Communication, together with the Attorney-General’s chambers, were monitoring such actions.
Meanwhile, Upko president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok said there was no room for extremism in Malaysia.
Expressing regret over Friday’s incident, Dompok said such action would divide the people, not unite them.
To date, more than 50 police reports have been lodged at the Shah Alam district police headquarters over the protest.
