Ketuanan Melayu is Respect and Should Not be Disputed

December 3, 08

From The Star 3 Dec 2008:

Jail all those who harp on racial issues, says rep
By MEERA VIJAYAN at the Johor State Assembly

The Ketuanan Melayu issue was among the hot topics at the state assembly yesterday with one assemblyman even asking for those raising racial matters to be jailed.

Tahir Taat (BN-Bukit Serampang) meanwhile, said politicians, including members of the Barisan Nasional component parties, started harping on racial issues, though such issues did not crop up among rural folk.

The concept of Ketuanan Melayu, he said, did not mean that non-Malays were servants but it was merely a mark of respect for the Malay sultanate.

Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman (BN-Puteri Wangsa) argued that Malaysians should not renege on agreements made prior to the country’s independence, including the special rights accorded to the Malays.

To dispute the phrase Ketuanan Melayu was something sensitive and should not be raised, he said adding that politicians had the responsibility to maintain harmony among the races.

So… ‘Malay Lordship’ is simply respect for the Sultans and not at all offensive or implying of superiority or dominance. Therefore, we shouldn’t dispute it.

Uh huh.

Let me repeat my earlier response to this sort of reasoning:

From The Star 20 May 2008:

Dr M quits Umno

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced he is quitting Umno, in what is seen as his final push to force Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down as Prime Minister and party president.

His wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali has also quit, according to his website www.chedet.com

Dr Mahathir also called on Umno members to join him in this radical move, which he likened to “removing gangrene” in order for the party to survive.

————————

From The Star 20 May 2008:

Later at a press conference, Dr Mahathir said he would send his resignation letter to the party secretary-general immediately.

He said Abdullah appeared not to accept the message from the ground and accused the Prime Minister of destroying the Barisan Nasional coalition.

”Even members of the component parties voted against Barisan. I believe Pak Lah has ruined Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP and ultimately Barisan.

He said Abdullah placed priority on his son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin and children, friends of his son-in-law on the Fourth Floor (of the Prime Minister’s Department), (Datuk Seri) Kalimullah Hassan (deputy chairman of the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd) and Brendan Pereira (former group editor-in-chief of NSTP).

————————

So, Mahathir quits UMNO, because he blames Badawi for ruining UMNO’s respectability among the electorate.

Some simple logic for you:

Mahathir ruled over UMNO and Malaysia for 22 years.

Badawi ruled over UMNO and Malaysia for 5 years, built upon Mahathir’s legacy and foundations.

Who is more responsible for the ISA, NEP, cronyism, and image of UMNO as self-serving, racist, corrupt and bullying?

Or is Mahathir assuming that Badawi managed to overturn and uproot all of the great institutions of 22 years of Mahathirism, and implement all the grievances the Malaysian people hate in just 5 short years?

Ooh, ooh! Wait! I know!

Badawi must have the power of TIME TRAVEL!!!

That’s how he could ruin UMNO and BN with policies that had been running for 22 years before he took power!

Badawi is to blame for the 1988 Constitutional crisis… Even though it happened during Mahathir’s time, but it’s Badawi’s fault!

Badawi is to blame for the hundreds of millions spent on the Petronas Twin Towers, Putrajaya and PROTON Part-Fall-Off Cars… Even though it happened during Mahathir’s time, but it’s Badawi’s fault!

Badawi is to blame for the rape and tehft of East Malaysia’s resources away from its native residents… Even though it happened during Mahathir’s time, but it’s Badawi’s fault!

Badawi is to blame for the Nepotist Economic Policy and its successors that have run for four fifths of their span under Mahathir… Even though it happened during Mahathir’s time, but it’s Badawi’s fault!

Badawi is to blame for accelerating Malaysia’s economy from on-par with Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore to half their values today… Even though it happened throughout Mahathir’s 22 long, loooong years of time, but it’s totally Badawi’s fault!

Yes, I see it now! Badawi really is to blame for making the people dissatisfied with UMNO and BN’s 3 decades of abuses!

IT’S ALL BADAWI’S FAULT!

Ketuanan Cina

KetuananCinaMotiva

Above from Malaysian Politics Motivational Posters

So, sleepyhead Badawi is pandering to the non-Malays his UMNOputras have alienated, likely in a terribly belated attempt to recuperate some of the losses BN suffered during the 2008 General Elections… At the cost of seeming even weaker to the Malay ultras itching to replace him.

So apparently as if by magic .Ketuanan Melayu is now a perfectly okay term to throw around.

It is not offending, frightening or dangerous to other races, because it simply means Malays being successful – and not, say, Malays being the high overlords of the subservient lesser races.

Funny then how tuan is literally translated as ‘lord’ or even ‘overlord’, and ketuanan can be rendered ‘lordship’.

But if you want the simplest test of whether such an arbitrary redefinition can miraculously make Ketuanan Melayu a nice, kind, gentle, cuddly, politically neutral phrase, just use the Put The Shoe On The Other Foot Technique and try these on for size:

Ketuanan Cina.

Chinese Supremacy.

Chinese Lordship.

Chinese Supreme High Overlords.

Next, let’s put this concept to the practical test. Let’s get Lim Kit Siang to shout that at the next DAP rally. Let’s have new MP Jeff Ooi open a motion on Ketuanan Cina in Parliament  while simultaneously writing a series of blog posts about it.

Let’s see if Ketuanan Cina will also be considered perfectly acceptable to the general public if we just redefine it as meaning ‘Chinese being successful’.

Or if it will be rightly viewed as an intentionally outrageous, provocative and seditious statement meant to convey Chinese chauvanism and arrogance? One that lands its champions in detention without trial to preserve the peaceful multicultural equilibrium of the nation?

If you catch my drift, then you’ll understand why Badawi’s spin and redefinition fails to impress me.

And while we’re at it…

Hidup Cina!!!

Takkan Cina hilang di dunia!!!

Bangkitlah kaum Cina!!!

Berjuang demi maruah kaum Cina!!!

Pantang dicabar Ketuanan Cina kami!!!

Don’t feel offended, I’m just trying to be ‘successful’ here.

Pak Lah explains meaning of ‘ketuanan Melayu’
By JANE RITIKOS and MANJIT KAUR

KUALA LUMPUR: The definition of ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy) is not about the Malays being in a position to dominate, rule over and force their power upon other races, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He said Malay supremacy meant that the Malays, as the indigenous people in Malaysia, needed to strengthen themselves to ensure they were successful and developed.

“If they are not successful and developed, then they are not tuan (masters), therefore they will be coolies. I am sure we do not want to become coolies who do not play any role in development because we are weak and not able.

“So when we talk about that (Malay supremacy), we mean we must be successful in many fields. It is never about ruling over others, or forcing our power upon them,” he told reporters after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting last night.

Abdullah, who is also Umno president, was asked about Malay supremacy being weakened due to Barisan Nasional’s losses in the general election and because the Malays were split between Umno, PKR and PAS.

He added that there were still matters related to the Malays that needed to be further improved and enhanced, although their successes were evident.

“We are not going to be a race that dominates others. We want to be a party that represents the Malays and that is ready to co-operate for the future of Malays and the people, as Malays will also succeed when all Malaysians are successful.

“That is Malay supremacy and I hope people will understand it,” he said.

Saya Zalim Anwar Video: Dr. Mahathir Admits Arresting Anwar Ibrahim Without Cause?

LATEST ANWAR UPDATES:

——————————–

Dr. M admitting before an audience that he had Anwar Ibrahim arrested all those years back without any basis???!!

Is this for real? It looks genuine. Could it just be a lookalike, soundalike actor?

Or is it really Dr. M, just being dryly sarcastic? He does seem super selamba (very nonchalant) about admitting it… As if it were a non-issue that bears no consequences for him. The audience laughs at the mention of throwing Anwar into detention.

—————————————-

UPDATE 5 March 2008: Dr. M claims that the video clip is a distortion and taken out of context, though he does not explain what he means by that, or how the context nullifies the ‘Saya Zalim Anwar’ statement. Perhaps he was performing a stand-up routine?

Badawi Blames World’s Problems On Western Conquerers

January 16, 08

From The Star 16 Jan 08:

Understanding religion could help West bridge ties with Muslim nations

merga@thestar.com.my

MADRID: The West and Muslim nations must find solutions to arrest the slide in relations between them, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said yesterday.

Telling the West to understand that Islam is a religion respected for its cultural and religious diversity, Abdullah said the teachings of Islam could not be faulted for the discord between the Muslim world and the West.

“The problems which continue to fester in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Golan Heights, Lebanon and Palestine are vestiges of the projections of power by the centres of world power.

“The resulting humiliation being felt by Muslims is the main cause of their loss of trust and confidence towards the West.

“But we have to acknowledge that finding solutions to these strategic issues have now become intertwined with the problem of managing cultural and civilisational diversity. The way forward for arresting the slide in relations is to resolve these two sets of problems in tandem because they are inter-dependent,” he added.

Browsing copy: Abdullah, seated next to Belkhadem, browsing through his working papers at the First Alliance of Civilizations Forum in Madrid yesterday. — Bernama

Addressing world leaders and foreign ministers at the First Alliance of Civilisations (AoC) Forum here yesterday, Abdullah said Western governments should not feel uneasy that Muslims were seeking to live in accordance with the principles and values of the Quran and the example set by Prophet Muhammad.

“They should acknowledge that there are civilisations today that continue to uphold religious values in the public sphere even if many Western governments and societies do not.

“Accepting diversity demands an open and accommodative attitude towards religion, and specifically towards religions other than one’s own,” he added.

The Prime Minister said a Muslim who was true to his religious teachings would not separate the principle of accountability from political governance simply because he wanted to perpetuate his power.

“Neither will he subordinate justice to the creation of infinite wealth and defend it in the name of economic growth.

“He will not abdicate the principle of fairness in managing ethnic relations even if it makes him somewhat unpopular within his own ethnic community. This is the approach adopted by the government in Malaysia and we call it Islam Hadhari.”

The AoC was created in 2005 on the initiative of Spain and Turkey under the auspices of the United Nations.

The two-day forum is the first major event of the alliance. It aims to tackle fear and suspicion, bridge gaps and overcome prejudices between Islam and the West.

————————–

Unlike his predecessor Mahathir who just blamed the Jews for the world’s failings…

“The problems which continue to fester in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Golan Heights, Lebanon and Palestine are vestiges of the projections of power by the centres of world power.

“The resulting humiliation being felt by Muslims is the main cause of their loss of trust and confidence towards the West.

Badawi goes for one-upmanship and blames the entire Western hemisphere!

Oh, of course! It’s all the West’s fault for all its imperialistic conquering in… What, the past 100, 200 years? Or all the way back to the Crusades?

Nothing is to be said, of course, about the other projections of power by the centres of world power stretching back 1400+ years.

Like the slaughter of the Qurayza Jews after they had been convinced to surrender peacefully.

Or the Umayyad conquest of Spain for no valid reason.

Perhaps the Granada massacre of 1500 Jewish families?

The entire span of the Muslim conquests and forced conversion of Christian and Jewish lands in the Middle East, Africa and Europe?

All of which preceded the so-called ‘unprovoked aggression’ of the Crusades – which shockingly were restricted to reconquering territories that had formerly been Christian.

See full list at Christianity vs Islam – Who Started This Whole Mess?.

But of course those particular campaigns of murder, enslavement and plunder did not lead to festering problems. Not like the hateful Western colonial dictators causing all sorts of offended feelings in the modern era, nosiree!

After all, those silly Christians just love to forgive and forget after they’ve been summarily brutalized and by unprovoked invasions, don’t they?

And as for why Western governments might feel slightly uneasy about masses of people following certain historical examples…

Sites like Nonviolent-Jihad Watch and The Religion of Peace (Really)  and will educate you on how foolish, paranoid and delusional those decadent Western infidels are!

Don’t they know how ‘Accepting diversity demands an open and accommodative attitude towards religion, and specifically towards religions other than one’s own‘? If the West only understood religion, they could bridge ties with Muslim nations!

But they don’t! Haha, what morons they have over there in the unenlightened West!

BUT NOT WESTERN IMPERIALIST PORN!!!

PM to tell how KL bridged racial-religious gaps

MADRID: Malaysia will get to share with other world leaders its experience as a successful moderate Islamic country with a multi-racial society and serve as an example to other nations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, specially invited to the First Alliance of Civilisations (AoC) annual forum here from tomorrow will explain how Malaysia was able to bridge the religious and racial gaps among its people.

The two-day forum, to be opened by the President of Spain, Josi Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, will be attended, among others, by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former Portugal President Jorge Sampaio, who is also UN High Representative for AoC.

A winter’s day: Abdullah accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah on a working visit to Spain. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar (fourth row, right) also arrived with them. On hand to receive Abdullah was Under Secretary Foreign Ministry of Spain, Head of Asia Pacific Duta Salarich (third row, middle) and Malaysian Ambassador to Spain, Datuk Naimun Ashakli Mohammad (second row, left).

Malaysian ambassador to Spain Datuk Naimun Ashakli Mohammad said the Spanish Government had cited Malaysia as a successful Muslim country, which practised a democratic process that could be emulated by others.

Naimun said the forum organisers had invited the Prime Minister to be one of the panel members in a plenary session to discuss the topic The Alliance of Civilisations: Managing Diversity in the era of Globalisation.

Abdullah, who arrived today, is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with Zapatero and extend an invitation to the Spanish leader to attend the third International Conference on Islam and the West in Malaysia.

The conference to be held on June 9 and 10 is in line with the Malaysian government’s aim to create an alliance among civilisations through the involvement of governments, scholars and civil society.

The two leaders are also expected to touch on the situation in Myanmar and West Asia.

On trade ties, Naimun said trade volume amounted to RM3.7 bil, in Malaysia’s favour, between last January and October. Malaysia exported telecommunication equipment, electrical goods, vegetable fats, textile and rubber gloves.

While Badawi blabs, boasts and bellyswaggers about the close-your-eyes-and-keep-on-dreaming fairness of relations in Malaysia, how long before the lack of maintenance or progress causes the bridge to go all Tacoma Narrows on us?

Badawi Says: Judge Us

December 4, 07

That’s right, folks! Our PM asks us to weigh and judge for yourselves how well you think our present government is being run.

And if you don’t like it, by all means DO NOT listen to our Deputy PM who would rather we vote for his political party no matter how worthless a job it’s been doing

NOw get out there and vote your (dis)satisfaction!

PM: Judge us by level of progress brought to the people

PUTRAJAYA: The country’s progress and development have benefited all Malaysians and no one should be hoodwinked because it is there for all to see, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

“Society, be it the Malays, Indians or Chinese, will gauge us by the level of progress and development we bring to the people irrespective of race,” the Prime Minister said, adding that Malaysians could not be taken for a ride (diperbodohkan) by anyone.

He said the people would use the nation’s level of success and progress to judge how serious the Government was to further develop the country and maintain peace and harmony.

Taking strong exception to the allegations made by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), he said the nation’s level of success was the key element to ward off the group’s “wild and insane” claims.

Referring to the Hindraf’s allegations that the Government was carrying out ethnic cleansing and had committed atrocities against Indians in Malaysia, Abdullah said the group had gone overboard.

“It’s hard to believe such claims. If we have been doing what they claimed, then there will not be peace and harmony, or political stability in the country,” he said at the monthly gathering of the Prime Minister’s Department here yesterday.

Abdullah said he did not believe any level-headed Malaysian would believe such claims, “but there are those who are gullible enough to believe them and act according to their emotions.”

He reminded police to do their best to stop such wild allegations from spreading.

The outrageous claims made by Hindraf had angered all Malaysians, including level-headed Indians in Malaysia, he said.

“I did not say that we have done everything. There are still poor people among us and we have managed to reduce the country’s poverty level from 50% to 5.7% within the past 50 years,” he said.

He said while the Government was determined and committed to eradicating hardcore poverty by 2010, others seem bent on causing trouble for their “narrow political motives”.

“This sort of chaos should not be happening in our country,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that the successful development efforts in Malaysia would invoke confidence among the people that the Government was serious in undertaking initiatives to develop the country for the well-being of the people of all races.

Abdullah said that while police dealt with street protestors who were out to create chaos in country, civil servants must continue to improve the public delivery system and carry out all the planned development programmes speedily.

The country’s progress and development have benefited all Malaysians and no one should be hoodwinked because it is there for all to see, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

That’s right, it’s very clear to see who is receiving the benefits and who is being denied a fair share. Do not be hoodwinked by anyone, by any political alliance, by any Government Enslaved Media (GEM) spin.

“Society, be it the Malays, Indians or Chinese, will gauge us by the level of progress and development we bring to the people irrespective of race,” the Prime Minister said, adding that Malaysians could not be taken for a ride (diperbodohkan) by anyone.

Let us gauge the level of progres afforded/allowed to us by the present administration. Let us not be diperbodohkan by anyone. Let us voice our heartfelt opinion in the coming general elections.

He said the people would use the nation’s level of success and progress to judge how serious the Government was to further develop the country and maintain peace and harmony.

That’s right, we shall use the state of the nation to judge whether the Government has been developing the country fairly and maintaining peace.

Badawi Will Use ISA on Street Protestors If Needed

November 28, 07

So it’s finally coming to pass. Once again when popular dissent begins to well up, it is immediately and foribly quashed by use of the Internal Security Act.

My comments after the news excerpt.

We will use Act against street protestors if we have to, says PM

PETALING JAYA: The Government will use the Internal Security Act (ISA) against street demonstrators who threaten national security and disrupt racial harmony if necessary, warned the Prime Minister.

“If there are reasons for us to use it, we will use it,” Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi stressed.

He was commenting on illegal street demonstrations held in Kuala Lumpur recently, including the latest by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), which claims to be fighting for the Hindus in Malaysia.

Abdullah said using the law, which allows for detention without trial, would be preventive action to spare the country untoward incidents that could affect its peace and national security.

“The ISA is there, if the situation warrants it, it will be used,” he told reporters at the RMAF air base in Subang here upon his return from Cairo yesterday.

On calls by certain quarters for the ISA to be invoked against illegal street demonstrators, Abdullah said: “I am very surprised that people want the ISA. I thought they never wanted it.”

The police, he said, would decide on the appropriate action to be taken.

On rallies being planned for next month, he said he would leave it to the police to assess whether they would be a threat to national security.

The annual Human Rights March organised by the Bar Council human rights committee is planned for next month.

Abdullah also warned that action would be taken against those who download and distribute the memorandum signed by Hindraf legal adviser lawyer P. Uthayakumar addressed to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, which had been published in the Internet. The memorandum alleges persecution of Malaysian Indians..

He said the Government acknowledged freedom of the Internet but action could be taken against those who misuse it to spread allegations against the Government.

The memorandum appeals to Britain to refer Malaysia to the World Court for crimes against ethnic Indians. It also claimed that “100 over Indians were slashed and killed by the Umno-controlled Malaysian government in the Kampung Medan mini genocide”.

To this, Abdullah said that if Hindraf had indeed made such claim, Umno would act.

“We want to know what proof they have (to support their claim). This is a serious accusation because they say it was Umno,” he said.

On Hindraf’s action, he said: “They want to kiss the orang putih (British). They want the orang putih to take action because they are not satisfied with us”.

Abdullah said Hindraf got support from the Indian community who thought they would each get RM1mil in compensation from its class-action suit filed against the British Government for bringing Indians into Malaya to work as labourers.

The Prime Minister also said that everyone must realise that accusations against the Government were made because certain people thought that the election was around the corner, and this was the case in every elections.

“But we hear what they say. Some of the demands are in the process of being addressed while some have been addressed but they are still harping on it,” he said.

On Cameron Highlands MP S.K. Devamany’s comment in Parliament that the Hindraf demonstration showed there was frustration at the lower levels in the community, Abdullah said the Government must be fair to all.

“If we focus on the interest of one group, others will be jealous, others will complain,” he said.

News article excerpts in bold italic. My analysis and comments follow each excerpt.

The Government will use the Internal Security Act (ISA) against street demonstrators who threaten national security and disrupt racial harmony if necessary, warned the Prime Minister.

‘Racial harmony’… UMNO’s particular definition of what constitutes ‘racial harmony’ would partly explain why the Government felt it could use the ISA on the HINDRAF protestors, who were probably exclusively Indian.

Whereas for the multi-racial Bersih Rally, they kept their hands off – instead using just chemical-laced water cannon, tear gas and shield bashes (as seen below and at link).

    BersihFRUShieldBash

But as I’ve said before, it’s classic double standards and flip-flop stance shifting: The historic anti-Malayan Union protests were also almost exclusively Malays protesting for Malay rights. Should they then have been discounted, ignored and abused by the British before being arrested without trial?

On calls by certain quarters for the ISA to be invoked against illegal street demonstrators, Abdullah said: “I am very surprised that people want the ISA. I thought they never wanted it.”

I am not at all surprised, except at the (faked?) naivete of our PM. Of course certain quarters are calling for the use of the ISA. If you were to name them, you would find all the supremacists of certain groups, government cronies and political powermongers – not ordinary everyday folk who are at the mercy of sudden midnight detention.

On rallies being planned for next month, he said he would leave it to the police to assess whether they would be a threat to national security.

A real threat to national security, or just a political threat to Barisan Nasional power security?

Abdullah also warned that action would be taken against those who download and distribute the memorandum signed by Hindraf legal adviser lawyer P. Uthayakumar addressed to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, which had been published in the Internet. The memorandum alleges persecution of Malaysian Indians.

Here is where the bloggers are being indirectly threatened for not succumbing to Government Enslavement of the Media (GEM).

He said the Government acknowledged freedom of the Internet but action could be taken against those who misuse it to spread allegations against the Government.

Whoops, what was I just saying? Time for EVERY SINGLE BLOGGER WHO DOES NOT SUPPORT BARISAN NASIONAL to be arrested – because all of us have at least one allegation against the ruling party!!!

Claims such as the ones in this link I suppose.

On Hindraf’s action, he said: “They want to kiss the orang putih (British). They want the orang putih to take action because they are not satisfied with us”.

Absolutely spot on. Badawi seems to realize that the actual aim of the high-profile and quite absurd lawsuit against Britain was actually to highlight the grievances that many Malaysians have against the MALAYSIAN government!

The Prime Minister also said that everyone must realise that accusations against the Government were made because certain people thought that the election was around the corner, and this was the case in every elections.

Accusations are made continually, good sirs. It is just around election time that any of you bother to listen for grievances.

And after listening to our woes, your Deputy responds that we shouldn’t vote against Barisan even if we are dissatisfied with what it’s been doing to us!

“But we hear what they say. Some of the demands are in the process of being addressed while some have been addressed but they are still harping on it,” he said.

It’s been more than 40 years since Lee Kuan Yew got Singapore kicked out by demanding equal rights for all (all races, religions and even the Malay farmers and fishermen who gain nothing from rich Malay bigshots getting more % of the fat contracts) in a truly Malayasian Malaysia, a call which DAP is continuing up till today. (But not before some 1960’s Government Enslaved Media riot incitement, of course.)

The issue still has not been addressed. Is it any wonder then that there are still people harping on it?

Actually, it’s a minor miracle that there ARE still people who dare to raise the issue after the May 13 1969 incident, Ops Lalang in 1987, the recent Bersih Rally and HINDRAF rally police violence, and the repeated threats to bring back the bloodshed of Malaysia’s minorities.

THEN WHY DON’T YOU START TREATING ALL MALAYSIANS FAIRLY REGARDLESS OF RACE AND RELIGION??!!!

WE’RE JEALOUS RIGHT NOW!!! WE’RE COMPLAINING RIGHT NOW!!!

BUT ALL YOU DO IS SPOUT FUZZY RHETORIC WHILE WAVING THE THREAT OF THE ISA IN OUR FACES!!!
